*The Whakataki Hotel serves delicious reasonably priced meals, provides back packers accommodation and petrol pumps .

*Mataikona is a remote peaceful location.

Popular with divers for paua and crayfish.

Line fishing from the rocks or surf casting from the sandy beach 3 minutes north.

A boating channel is 3 minutes north.

The Mataikona river has flounder and whitebait in season.

Under the swing bridge the water is shallow enough to wade in.

Great walks along the sandy beaches, stones and road.

Rock formations are unique to the area, and the rock pools have a mix of sea urchins, star fish and little crabs.

The picture post card views of the ocean from most windows in the house and the deck are awesome, cargo ships and fishing trawlers pass by daily, there's lots of lawn (fully fenced) and the beach is a stone's throw from the gate.

  • A little hidden gem

A little hidden gem. So much to do and we only feel like we scratched the surface. Such an amazing spot. We were grateful that we stayed four nights but could have stayed longer. The beaches were amazing and we spent two hours swimming at the closest swimming beach and had it all to ourselves. Highlight of our North Island road trip. Property was an iconic kiwi Bach with everything you really need and lovely views of the ocean. Our kids enjoyed playing cricket on the front lawn. Fantastic place

Neat location and definitely equip with all the essentials required for a kiwi bach holiday stay, during summer or winter. House is a bit tired but was clean and tidy. We would stay here again. It is difficult to get down to the beach it you’re not super fit and able but beautiful ocean views right from the front deck ??
