Wakefield is 30km south of Nelson City, a 25 minute drive. The village is home to a primary school, 4 churches, a doctors surgery and pharmacy. Several local shops and businesses thrive in the village and help to make it a wonderful place to live. The bakery and butchers are renown for quality, the Four Square supermarket is always busy, and two cafes provide a place for socialising for some time out.

Within Wakefield village, and all within walking distance of Felbridge House, there are:

The Abel Tasman National Park – perfect for walking, boating, kayaking and exploring.

Horse Riding – Join Fiona on a one to five day horse trek through Nelson’s untamed back country.

Cycling – Tasman’s Great Taste Trail passes right through Wakefield. There are also numerous other biking tracks in the region that cater for all tastes and abilities.

Winerys – Nelson is a popular wine producing region and there are many winerys to sample and enjoy.

Food – the choice of places to eat and drink around Nelson is huge. All tastes and occasions can be catered for and the general quality of food and drink in the area is supreme.

Art – Nelson is renowned for its artistic community. Painters, writers, potters, stone masons, glass artists and jewellery makers are among the many talented artists that populate the region.

Markets – Nelson market is held on Saturday mornings and is a popular destination for locals and holiday makers alike.

Fishing – there are endless opportunities to fish in the Nelson area, from sea fishing in the Abel Tasman, to catching your own fresh water salmon for tea at Anatoki Salmon.
