Cottage | Lawrence | #37349
The old Lawrence town jail has been restored and converted into a characterful but comfortable self-contained cottage, which sleeps two in the atmospheric surroundings of the original cell complete with cell door with peephole. The distressed timber boards and original cell door give the "cell" authentic jailhouse character, but the modern beds with Alpaca duvets are much more warm and comfortable!
Complete with own breakfast making facilities/microwave/bench-top oven, the cottage has everything you need for your short stay in Lawrence.
Take time to explore the history of Otago's first gold-rush town with the beautiful old architecture and information boards scattered around the town or visit the town's museum. Meet the friendly locals in the great selection of giftware/antique shops, cafes and restaurants.
A walk through historic Gabriel’s Gully or a bike/walk up the Clutha Gold Trail is hard to beat. The bike trail is only a few minutes bike ride from our door and offers a unique heritage experience set within diverse and stunning landscapes. It is an easy grade trail that is full of variety. You are welcome to borrow our mountain bikes but will need to bring your own helmets.
Perhaps a round of golf at the stunning 9 hole golfcourse is more what you're looking for. A scenic 30 minute drive over Waipori will also take you to beautiful Lake Mahinerangi for a spot of fishing.
Lawrence is the perfect base - drive west for an hour or so through incredible Central Otago scenery to Alexandra and pick up some fresh fruit from the orchards along the way. Drive south the same distance and you reach the spectacular Catlins National Park and the rugged southern coastline. Venture east and get your city fix with a day wandering around Dunedin, then drive out to its beautiful peninsula to see penguins and albatross.
Whatever you choose to do, you will find friendly people who are happy to help and share this beautiful part of New Zealand.
