The cottage is a well designed 1 brm accommodation which is double glazed, insulated, and has air con/heat pump, and a full kitchen.

It is privately nestled in our back garden, well away from the street with beautiful mature trees nearby & enjoyable birdsong.

There is a private, north facing covered outdoor deck which extends the living space during warmer seasons as it is accessed directly through the living room french doors.

Beyond the verandah is garden & a small lawn area to assist your relaxation.

Off street parking is on our double entry U shaped drive. Guest access to the cottage is via a concrete pathway from that driveway.

The only extra charge is for additional people (more than 2). Please read house rules before booking.

A 10 min drive south will find you in lovely Greytown which has popular cafes, restaurants and boutique style shopping.

Masterton is 15 mins north. Wellington city is approx 1 & 1/2 hrs drive by car.

There are rivers for summer enjoyment and beaches further afield at Castlepoint (the walk to the lighthouse is a major attraction) and Riversdale (both over an hours drive away). Then there's the south coast's Palliser Bay with its rustic fishing village of Ngawi, Palliser Bay's iconic lighthouse which are both worth visiting. Not so far away - Martinborough and Gladstone's many wineries and cafes are a popular feature of this area. Pukaha Wildlife Centre (well worth a visit) is at Mt Bruce (20 mins north of Masterton). Tramping/hiking in the Mt Holdsworth (Tararua Ranges) area. Remutaka Cycle trail. Fell Museum at Featherston. Lake Wairarapa, Lake Onoke, Henley Lake Park (man made lake in Masterton -good to walk around) Queen Elizabeth Park and Aratoi museum in Masterton. Cobblestones museum and the popular Schoc Chocolate shop in Greytown. The Woodside Rail Trail is a pleasant 5 km walk or bike track from Greytown to the Woodside Train Station.

There are information brochures available, in the cottage and at our local Information Centre located on Holloway St at the Events Centre /library showing other attractions in the area.

  • We very much enjoyed our stay

We very much enjoyed our stay. The cottage is set in gardens and very quiet and tranquil. It is new, very well kitted out and very clean. Alison is a charming host and pays attention to all the small details that make one's stay memorable.

  • The small cottage is very well laid out inside and beautifully furnished

The small cottage is very well laid out inside and beautifully furnished. There is a lovely veranda with seating for the summer days looking onto a well kept garden. The owner kindly provides some basic provisions for breakfast and has put a lot of thought into providing extras that might be needed. Access to the cottage is separate from the owners. Although the cottage is on the edge of town, it is adjacent to other houses so it is reasonable to expect some noise at times.

  • I have stayed in many hotels and motels in my life but...

I have stayed in many hotels and motels in my life but the owners of this cottage made this stay one of the top experiences ever due to the many extra touches provided for our comfort. Examples included : strawberries for the first breakfast,a cache of honesty jar snacks, lots of bathroom supplies, kitchen staples and fresh flowers. I slept on the sofa bed and it was very comfortable especially since a thick topper pad was provided. Personally I think Laurel cottage could take 4 people because 2 could sleep on the sofa
