Description

  • Amazing setting with fantastic views
  • Handy for Queen Charlotte Track, boat trips, wineries

If you are looking for somewhere in the Marlborough Sounds where you can enjoy the simple pleasures of peace, natural surroundings, stunning views, and a comfortable nest where you can relax and unwind, Cariad is your kind of place.

With stunning views and a little beach, Cariad offers a secluded hideaway just five kilometres from Picton with easy access to the Sounds, the Queen Charlotte Track, ferries and wineries. The simple, weatherboard bach is over fifty years old, well maintained and very comfortable in all seasons. It has been sensitively brought up to date whilst retaining the traditional Kiwi bach atmosphere reminiscent of those long, lazy holidays of childhood. It has a great ‘retro’ feel, is fully insulated, has a heat pump, lots of hot water and top quality bed linen.

North facing with all day sun and set amongst native bush, the bach comprises a living/dining room, a kitchen, a bedroom, a bathroom and a balcony with table and chairs. A path meanders down to a little beach, a good spot to sit and read, launch the kayaks for a paddle around the bay or take a dip. There are two bicycles for guest use.

Cariad is a place to wind down and relax. There is no TV but there is a well stocked bookcase, a variety of indoor games and a CD player with i-Pod facility and a selection of music to choose from. There is a phone and broadband email access.

The bach has a file with lots of information about things to do and see in the area, places to eat, shopping and transport or we can provide you with information before you arrive.

Special conditions: No smoking inside or outside as the bach is set in bush. Single or couple only. There is no extra bed. Path to beach is well formed and has a good handrail but it quite steep, so not suitable for anyone not too steady on their feet. This is definitely not a party venue!

This was my favorite accommodation for our 3-week tour of the South Island. It's directly on the water, with a deck off the bedroom that overlooks the Sound and a small marina. The bach is perfectly appointed with a 1960's vibe. It's just right for two. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook full meals. Highly recommended.

This little gem must have one of the best views in the Queen Charlotte Sound. It's a 'look Bach in time' and even though we were using it as a base to explore the area, we were compelled to just hang out and enjoy the retro ambience one day. The lack of TV was fine and the WiFi reliable. Thanks to the owners for sharing..Maggie.

We LOVED this property and if we lived in NZ it would be a place we could see ourselves returning to time and time again. Everything required for the perfect beachside holiday had been thoughtfully provided. The location was magical. Our only regret was that we hadn't planned a longer stay. Thank you!
