Pouakai Cabin was the perfect base for our Taranaki explorations. The peace and beauty of the bush for me, and the animals for the kids - but only 20 minutes from the centre of New Plymouth. The cabin had everything we needed.
Cabin is located on the edge of Egmont National Park, right at the start of the Mangorei trail and about 20min from New Plymouth and Pukeiti botanical gardens. We enjoyed the privacy and seclusion the cabin afforded, as well as the solar heated wooden hot tub. (Ask about heating the tub early). The provided plug in induction cooktops and skillet worked wonderfully. The eggs, bread, butter, and bacon purchased from Desiree were well worth it.
Excellent location out of the way, colourful signage and easy map/directions to get to the cabin. View outlook from cabin was superb and local scenery and sounds were peaceful. Property is well maintained and cared for with clear instructions on how to use items in the cabin (as well as access). Space was cosy. beds were comfy with plenty of plump pillows to rest our head. Attractive decor and colours inside the cabin. At all times warm, cool and the spa bath was the absolute highlight. A++++
