The nearest village store is located in Middleham Village, and there are a variety of well-stocked family-run stores in Leyburn, such as traditional butchers and bakers, fashion shops, jewellers, gifts and homeware and a specialist delicatessen.
The hamlet of Horsehouse is located on the road from Middleham in Wensleydale to Kettlewell in Wharfedale. Middleham has lots to offer and is most famous for its castle, which was once home to Richard III, and is also home to several racehorse trainers, providing a wonderful sight each day as the horses and riders make their way through the village up onto the gallops. There is a village store and a small selection of tea shops, cafés and galleries all set around it’s pretty village square. Please note that the road from Kettlewell to Horsehouse is challenging at the best of times. During icy and snowy conditions it can become impassable.
