Self-Contained Converted cart house on Organic Farm in Beautiful Countryside.
Self-contained former granary to 16th century farmhouse in North Monmouthshire. The cart house has a chic, modern feel, with native oak floors and fittings set off against quirky antique furniture and contemporary glass tables. The light, airy atmosphere during the day is transformed into a cosy space for evening relaxing. The open plan downstairs room has a plush leather sofa bed in the living area, with a large modern dining table and stylish contemporary designer mini-kitchen. Underfloor heating makes this the perfect place to practise your yoga! The twin French windows open onto a private patio where you can sit out in the sun or watch the stars at night without light pollution, but with the warmth of your own fire pit. Upstairs, the spacious bedroom has a large double bed with memory foam mattress for a perfect night's sleep, and a designer en-suite bathroom with power shower and twin sinks. The views are spectacular across the farm and beyond to the iconic Skirrid mountain. We encourage guests to use the farm, walk the fields or picnic in one of the areas set aside for wildlife. If you want to help with the sheep, we'll find you a job! Our whole ethos is to live as sustainably as possible and the electricity for the Cart House comes from a mix of wind and solar energy, with the heating provided by a super-efficient wood pellet boiler. The farm produces organic, rare breed and wholly pasture-fed sheep with no spray or fertilisers and minimal tractor use across the year. We aim to protect our soils and support a great range of wildlife. The Cart House is a great place for a relaxed break walking in the Black Mountains, dining in local restaurants (including the nearby Michelin Starred Walnut Tree) and browsing the fascinating independent shops in nearby Abergavenny. North Monmouthshire is renowned for its cycling on quiet lanes and rolling country roads with little traffic. For the adrenalin junkies, we are half way between Bike Park Wales and the legendary trails of the Forest of Dean and there are lots of green lanes around the far to whet your appetite. We offer locked bike storage, access to a pressure washer and plenty of local knowledge about places to go. We can arrange additional activities, such as individual yoga lessons, wine tasting at the excellent Whitecastle Vineyard in the village, or occasional courses in furniture making, blacksmithing and cider making! We want you to have the best time possible during your stay and will do all we can to make it happen. At the same time, we respect your privacy and will not bother you unless you want us to!

We had a delightful few days is this beautiful corner of Wales. The accommodation is comfortable and characterful, and the hosts are very friendly. You can cook up simple meals and enjoy eating them with a lovely view of the surrounding hills. Our hosts were busy with lambing - the lambs were very sweet to see, and the resident sheep dog is just lovely!
Beautiful cottage! We had such a lovely stay. Would have loved to have been there for longer to explore the farm/walks/pubs/restaurants a bit more. Nick and Sarah were so welcoming too! Many many thanks
Nick and Sarah are very kind and hospitable hosts. We were impressed by their sheep farm.
Beautiful area for walking. The cottage is a nice and comfortable place to stay. Kitchen is a bit small for tall people but sufficient for simple cooking.
Recommanded as a good base to discover the Black Mountains.
Beautiful converted barn. Very peaceful. Outside eating area. Loved feeding the chooks. Loved exploring and learning about the property, sheep and Sarah and Nick's lifestyle. Appreciated the eggs and homemade slices. Loved the hikes in the local area and history. Lots to explore. Need to stay longer than 4 nights. Thanks Sarah and Nick. We loved our stay.
The property is lovely and hosts Nick and Sarah are delightful. What costs it a star is when we arrived there was a key in a security box and no one had seen fit to send me the code. After a four hour drive in lousy conditions we couldn’t get in and there was no reply to our calls or messages. I don’t know where responsibility lies but two and a half hours of hanging around in damp and cold wasn’t ok. I’d book again as long as they promise not to change the code!
Took the kids hiking at Pen y Fan. Spent two nights in an amazing Welsh farm. Our kids loved the farm dog, touring the farm and playing outside. The owners, Sara and Nick, were amazing and even allowed our children to help pick the morning eggs. We loved our stay. Highly recommended!
Thanks for letting us stay!
Lovely rural property close to Abergavenny. Accommodation beautifully presented. Mini kitchen a tad squished but didn't detract from our overall break. Beautiful views over fields towards Black Mountains.
We had the best 2 night stay !
The cottage is absolutely beautiful and the surrounding land is so nice !
The cottage was very clean and comfortable.
The hosts were away but their son was there who was really helpful and checked us in.
There were eggs left for us which was lush !
The cat is an absolute cutie !
All in all, had a fabulous weekend and would 100% recommend.
Thank you so much ❤️

HI Amanda and thanks for the review. There are smoke alarms, but they are battery powered, as we had a problem with the mains ones going off at random times.
A lovely place to stay I a beautiful setting , the accommodation was perfect for us and the location was amazing My daughter loved the farm and the friendly dogs ,sheep chickens and of course lola the cat who I had to check my bags twice to make sure that my daughter didn't try and smuggle her home with her ,
we enjoyed exploring the surrounding fields and lots of fun there
The farm is quiet which is lovely but also a town 5 miles away and very central to lots of places to see and do
A lovely walk to a nearby pub for some fantastic food is highly recommended

Thanks for the lovely review. It was a pleasure hosting you and we really hope to see you again.
We spent a very enjoyable week here.
Our friendly and helpful laid back hosts, Nick and Sarah, made us feel very welcome. The accommodation was as described and very comfortable. No TV or radio but WiFi good so we could use our laptop and smart phones. Would benefit from lighting above the small kitchenette area. Another suggestion would be to provide a 'What 3 Words' location as the property is not easy to find!
Good location for exploring the Brecon Beacons area. We also enjoyed visiting Raglan Castle and Hay-on-Wye. Good choice of supermarkets in Abergavenny.
We would definitely recommend this property for a short break or a week's peaceful getaway.
Well worth a stay at this superb cottage. Nick & Sarah were so friendly and the cottage was cosy. Not far from local amenities and tourist attractions. Lovley to see farm annimals in the field next to the cottage like free range chickens, lambs and a friendly cat. Will certainly book again.
Lovely cottage on an amazing sheep farm. The cottage had everything we needed and was in a great spot for exploring the local area. Amazing master bedroom, great views of the countryside and my boys got to do some jobs around the farm which they loved. V good value for money as well. Perfect spot for escaping the hustle and bustle of London.
Great property, great location, great communication! Very helpful hosts. Loved our stay. Really good base for walking, cycling etc & visiting some other wonderful areas. Also lovely property for relaxing.
Welcoming lovely hosts. Clean and quaint cottage. Beautiful scenery. Close to local amenities. What more could you want? Would happily stay again. Thank you!
Would book again in a heartbeat! But for longer...
Nick and Sarah were friendly, open and helpful. They were the ideal hosts. Just wish we could have stayed longer to explore the farm and the area more. It was a flying visit. It was a perfect base for us - and we would book there again!
The property was in a nice location, was clean and well furnished. Unfortunately it was a wet weekend but we managed to do some walking. There was no TV in the house which would have been nice. There were 3 smoke alarms in the house, all of which were disconnected.
Great location for exploring, everything you need on your doorstop
Property was very clean and spacious, easy access to many local walks, everything you needed was nearby i.e shops, restaurants, only downfall was the WiFi it depends on what network you have but still a very enjoyable stay, met nick Sarah and the children very pleasant people
Lovely peaceful apartment in a wonderful region! Warm welcome by the owners, freshly cut flowers, bread, butter, jam and organic eggs on the table! Beautiful walks in the surroundings, fantastic pubs and restaurants, hosts gave some useful tips and explained us how to get there. We would come back, thanks Nick and Sarah!
Great location to get away from it. Nick and Sarah were great. Homemade bread, fresh eggs and milk were a great touch. loved our couple of days relaxing here, would return again!!

About the host
Hosted by Nick and Sarah
We live next door and run the small farm as sustainably as possible. We have organic, pasture-fed sheep, the farm is powered by renewables and we avoid any unnecessary chemical use on the farm or in our daily lives. We want the Cart House to be a stylish, comfortable retreat from hectic work and family life, but there is fast broadband and we have a fully equipped office, if you need some space to work while you are here.
Why they chose this property
Very easy access to the Walnut Tree restaurant, great walks to Skirrid and Whitecastle, good local pub and wine tastings in the village. 50 acres to play in, too.
What makes this property unique
The Cart House is a seventeenth century addition to the earlier farmhouse. It was originally a dairy, with space for the hay cart next door and as granary above. We converted it for habitation in 2004.
