About this property

Captivating 6 Bed Cottage in the village of Moulso

Yew Tree Cottage is a stunning seven bedroom cottage.
Our beautiful thatched cottage is over 300 years old, it has a wealth of character and many original features which make it such a charming place to stay

The cottage has been sympathetically maintained and updated to retain many original features.

The cottage includes a wonderful country style kitchen complete with large range oven and an abundance of storage space. A handy down stairs cloakroom lies off the kitchen and a secret stair case leads directly from the kitchen to one of the bedrooms

Leading from the kitchen is a cosy television lounge and from here you walk through to the 'real fire' lounge which beg to be lit and a good book enjoyed in front of it.

There is a bathroom with a bath tub & a shower over it on the ground floor.

Open the little wooden door (minding your head) and enter the first floor where you will find 5 good sized bedrooms, all unique and tastefully decorated.

Beautiful beams run throughout the cottage giving it a really cosy and fun feel

Venture to the second floor and you will find two attic bedrooms that the children will love to explore!

There are side and rear gardens, held within the rear garden is a children's play area including slides and a swings.

A gravel driveway and a large garage mean there is ample safe parking available

There is wireless Internet throughout the property as well as Sky television.

"This is a beautiful cottage with so much character. Everything that we needed was provided, going over and above what we expected. The kids loved playing both around the house and in the garden" David, St Albans.

About the Name Yew Tree
Yew Tree Cottage takes its name from the large Yew Tree located at the front of the Cottage. We were interested to find out a little more about the Yew Tree and wanted to share with you:

Gaelic Name : Idho

Latin Name : Taxus baccata Linnaeus

Medicinal Benefits : The leaves of a yew tree are now used to produce a drug which inhibits cancer cell growth permanently, called taxol

yew-003

Place of Origin : Britain to Northern Iran, widely cultivated in North America
History : The oldest know wooden implement is a spear made of yew wood, it dates back 50, 000 years

Archaeological excavations have found yew bows and knives in Swiss lake dwellings from 10,000 years ago. Historically, yew bows were the weapon of choice for both hunting and warfare throughout most of Europe until the invention of firearms.

Due to its hardness, it was used for shuttles, cogs, axle-trees, and pulley-pins. The colourful wood (red heartwood, white sapwood) was used to veneer furniture, to make lute bodies, bowls, tankards, combs, tool handles, pegs, and various art objects. It was used in many ways by various religions, and certain yew objects such as drinking-cups are still regarded as having a certain spiritual potency.

Yew forests were once common in France and Germany. The wood of the English Yew was used for bows by Celtic and Teutonic warriors, a practice which eventually led to the demise of the great Yew forests of Western Europe. In Teutonic areas the Yew had important symbolic significance. A judge's staff was made of its wood and Yew was planted in graveyards as a form of protection from malevolent spirits. Its needles were also used in rituals to communicate with the dead.

What our guests say.........

Picture post card cottage
This was one of our favourite places we have stayed in. So much character. There was plenty of everything to use for 12 people. The only thing I would say is perhaps more seating in the garden but apart from that everything else was perfect for our group of 12 ladies of all different ages.

Beautiful house
The house is beautiful, full of character with uneven floors in places. A good big garden to run around, well equipped kitchen. And it was lovely to have an open fire.

Great for a large group
We were always cosy during our stay at Yew Tree Cottage, with plenty of spaces to get together as one group or separate into smaller gatherings as we desired. As a several hundred year old thatched cottage some of the uneven floors, level changes and low doorways might prove challenging to more mobility restricted guests, though not a problem for us. A couple of minor issues were resolved promptly by the hosts, for which we were very grateful. It gave us everything we needed to enjoy our few days of celebration together.

A unique property
We wanted to visit Bletchley Park so Yew Tree Cottage was in a perfect location for us. The house is extraordinary - old and very interesting. It worked well for us, but the irregular height of stairs and steps, doors and the slopes on floors upstairs might be too much for some. The kitchen is very well equipped and the house was a very cosy place to return to after our visits to Bletchley and Stowe House and Gardens.

Family Get-together
The cottage was welcoming and very clean. Kitchen was well equipped. House charming, the children loved it and the garden and will have happy memories of our stay. A good supply of indoor games. We had to take care with low beams and walk carefully up the stairs. Also there are slanting floors in some bedrooms, which is only to be expected with a property of that age. Communication with the owner was good. Well done YTC Team for your hard work and attention to detail.
