Fair Maid (ref UK11078) is a barn conversion that sits in the courtyard of a former farm in the heart of the village of Kentisbeare, Mid Devon. With its wood clad exterior, it is well laid out with a comfortable interior, making the property perfect for couples, friends or a small family. There is an enclosed patio at the rear of the barn which is bordered by a stream and is the ideal spot for a morning coffee or a glass of your favourite tipple on a balmy summer’s evening. This is a superb property which has been decorated and furnished to a very good standard and boasts a cosy wood burner, together with many original features. The kitchen/breakfast room looks out over the grounds.
Glimsters Cottage (ref UK31014) is a lovely grade 2 listed thatched cottage which has been sympathetically restored to uncover much of its original charm and character boasting original exposed beams, stone walls and lots of welcoming touches such as a blazing a wood burner. A spacious living room and a well-equipped kitchen/dining room have been make up the ground floor. On the first floor you will find two sumptuous bedrooms, one with an en-suite shower room, as well as a family bathroom.

Famed for its laid back vibe and surfing lifestyle, Devon hosts an enchanting cocktail of golden beaches, traditional villages and a rich, rolling countryside steeped in history. For walkers and birdwatchers, this really is the most suitable location as there are so many walks to enjoy from the front door. Many activities available in the area include golf, fishing, horse riding and sailing. There are also numerous National Trust properties within a short drive. Exmouth is close by and has a lovely 2-mile stretch of beach and was once home to the wives of Horatio Nelson and Lord Byron, whilst a little further afield lies the genteel town of Budleigh Salterton with its white-washed and thatched cottages which attracted visitors such as Noel Coward and PG Wodehouse. At Exeter, the South West Coastal Path Park is an ideal family day out. Exmoor National Park is also worth a visit with its rugged landscape and roaming ponies. Beach 19 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 250 yards.

Very happy with location, well described, good communication. Decor fab, comfy beds, Cleaning not 100% but we were happy. My only suggestion were more supplies needed prior to arrival as it’s embarrassing having to ask - toilet rolls, food waste bags (1 provided) washing up liquid, (very little left), black rubbish sack (1 provided), dishwasher tablets etc.

The owners had thought of everything that someone might need. It was cosy and comfortable, clean and well-equipped. Parking was easy, and the view at the back was lovely. My dog also approved very highly!

On arrival at Fair Maid and walking through the front door we fully realised the true size and luxury of what was on offer. All the rooms were larger and more spacious than the photos lead you to believe. Both the bedrooms are of generous proportions, not just a bed and other furniture crammed into the room, there was plenty of room to move about. Both the shower rooms were of High quality, and having a downstairs toilet was wonderful and handy. The outside space was larger than the photos made out, with a large table and chairs to eat your breakfast or afternoon tea. The addition of the babbling brook next to the patio(fenced) with the resident ducks and guinea fowl was an added bonus. Watching them feed, clean themselves and sleep in the sunshine. The village is very quiet and lovely for a stroll. We regularly walked to the village car park and at the top end there were 2 donkeys in a small paddock, who we always took some apples to as a treat. They got used to us coming everyday. We went to The Merry Harriers pub at Westcott, south of Cullompton. We had sunday lunch which they serve from 12 noon to 8pm. The portion sizes are very generous. The puddings are excellent too. We also went on Thursday evening as it is steak night - 2 x rump steaks with a free bottle of house wine for £25. The meat is supplied by the local butcher in Cullompton - Veaseys. Excellent quality. Cannot recommend The Merry Harriers enough, the staff were very attentive throughout, even bringing our dog Kris (retired black lab guide dog ) a bowl of water for him to wash down the odd chip that came his way. So if you are looking for a luxury quiet break, just 5 minutes from M5, then Fair Maid is the cottage to book.
