Hawkchurch is a quintessential village of chocolate box cottages where Dorset meets Devon, and is named as a village of roses. In 1894, the pioneer rose-growing rector planted roses around every door. This small village is famous for the stunning church Parish of St John the Baptist. Pop into the local pub, a traditional coaching house that has been at the site since 1543. With so much history on offer, the village of Hawkchurch is a hidden gem to discover.

There is plenty to do in the local area. Just a short drive away is the ancient Devon town of Axminster, considered the ‘gateway to the Jurassic Coast’. Axminster dates back to the Celtic time around 300BC. You can explore its history at the Heritage Centre or sample the delights of Hugh Fernley-Whittingstall’s River Cottage at nearby Trinity Hill.

The harbour village of Lyme Regis is also within easy reach, just 7 miles away, which is a popular spot with its famous Cobb and sandy beach. The stunning World Heritage Jurassic coastline boasts picturesque fishing villages, such as Beer and Branscombe, as well as breathtaking clifftop walks and beautiful beaches like West Bay, featured in the award-winning Broadchurch television series. Mill Cottage is an excellent base from which to enjoy many activities, from a spot of mackerel fishing to a fossil hunt in Charmouth, or walks in the surrounding Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Golf and fishing can be found nearby. A great place to visit whatever the time of year. Beach 7 miles. Shop and restaurant 1½ miles, pub 1 mile.

Beautifully renovated cottage in an ideal location.

The cottage has been renovated to a very high standard. The location is absolutely ideal. No through traffic, except for the occassional farm vehicle. Very very peaceful and tranquil setting. The check in process was very easy, as well as general comms with the owner. Highly highly recommended.

I have to be careful not to mark down mill cottage it’s beautifully presented and very clean

I have to be careful not to mark down mill cottage it’s beautifully presented and very clean but if you have any mobility issues you May struggle. The stairs are steep and there is no shower just a role top bath in the bedroom which is very difficult to get out of. The toilet and sink are on the ground floor. If your looking for a quiet stay nestled in nature I would have no problem recommending Mill cottage.

Beautiful old stone cottage, perfect for a relaxing getaway.

Beautiful old stone cottage, perfect for a relaxing getaway. Very quiet location, just the sound of the stream during the day and the owls at night. Cottage is warm and cosy with everything we needed, especially liked the large bedroom with the clawfoot bath, perfect after a day exploring the area on foot. We walked every day from the cottage using the many foopaths, tracks and single track roads and then in the evening it's about 20 minutes walk to the pub with great food. Top welcome pack of scones, jam, cream, bread, milk and cider

This cottage was modern warm and cosy, situated in a tranquil area with plenty of public footpaths for rural walks. It is also close to a few local coastal villages such as Lyme Regis which are perfect for visiting, whether a walk along the beach or a wander around the town.

The cottage was beautifully renovated to a high standard.

The cottage was beautifully renovated to a high standard. It was in a very remote setting, there was not a shop or pub that you could have easily walked to and so that would not suit everybody. The bath in the bedroom was lovely but I think that the cottage would certainly benefit from a shower which is far more practical and quicker than having to have a bath.

Friendly owners and very welcoming.

Friendly owners and very welcoming. We made the most of our stay and spent every day exploring the gorgeous Devon/Dorset coastline and countryside. The lodge was very homely, we even had a few spiders try and enjoy the warmth of the cottage too. The lodge has been beautifully renovated and is in such a gorgeous, tranquil location.
