About this property
Country house with garden and swimming pool
La Guiltiere is the perfect place for a really relaxing holiday. Give a carrot to the horses, throw some corn to the chickens, leave the kids playing with the rabbits while you enjoy a bit of quiet contemplation under the Gazebo. la Guiltiere is the perfect place to 'get away from it all'.
Four bedrooms, (three double, one twin) with central heating and if you want to be really cosy the dining room has an open fireplace. Three bathrooms and downstairs toilet/cloakroom, TV, and internet.
The kitchen is easy to use and well equipped. Open plan to the dining room, a great space to wine and dine with family and friends.
The first floor has two double bedrooms each with own bath/shower and dressing rooms.
The second floor has two bedrooms and shared bathroom and although each bedroom has high ceilings, watch out for the low doors and mind your head.
The house has a huge and very lovely beautiful garden. (The garden to the front of the house has gates just in case you want to contain small children)
La Guiltière is a fabulous four bedroom 'Maison de Maître' deep in the heart of the Normandy countryside. Although recently redecorated and modernised, we have tried as far as possible, to retain its original and traditional style.
The kitchen is well organised and equipped with electric range cooker with 5 gas burner hob, dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker, and all you would expect in a proper usable kitchen. Cutlery and crockery is of a good standard but not irreplaceable should accidents happen.
The dining room, with open fire, is connected to the kitchen by a large opening giving the impression of being open plan. This is a great space and even for the larger party means that the poor old cook isn't left slogging over a hot stove alone.
The hallway has a fabulous oak staircase leading to the upper floors.
The sitting room also has an open fire TV, DVD, internet, comfy sofas and original hand stencilled walls!
Downstairs loo and cloakroom. Back kitchen for washing wellies, washing machine and tumble drier.
Outside terrace with barbecue table and chairs.
The first floor has two double bedrooms each with its own sitting room/dressing room. Bedroom one has a bathroom, bedroom two has a big shower.
The second floor has one twin bedroom and one double bedroom. There is a shared bathroom with great views over the countryside.

About the host
Hosted by Jennifer Stocks
Originally from Buckinghamshire, We moved to France in 1990, our boys were 6 and 9 . Kids were dispatched to the local school and became Frenchified in no time but It took me a little longer. After almost 30 years I'm getting there. The accent remains firmly in place and apparently, my use of the French language can at times be rather imaginative.
Why they chose this property
We fell in love with the house right from the start. The fact that it was the only one we saw that had a roof, bathroom and central heating (kind of) helped. Looking at old photos now I think we must have been mad. It was the neigbours who clinched it for us. There is a great sense of comunity here and I guess because we are all rather spread out, people makemore of an effort. This time of year is especially neigbourly with the great exchange of garden plants and produce.
We didn't realize at the time but the house has a fascinating history. We are only the second family to have lived in the house since it was built at the turn of the last century. We still have visits from people who want to see the hand stencilled walls or just see inside. Monsieur et Madame Messiere were the last owners. Monsieur was a Mayor of Thuboeuf and Madame had a reputation for being a little strict and few got further than the kitchen door in her day.
It's a fabulous house and I try not to forget how lucky I am. It's so peaceful but when you need a bit of life we have a little gem just 10 mins away, Bagnoles deL'Orne. It's not to everyones taste, very old Parisienne and Poodle, but it's great for people watching and a lot closer than Paris.
