Our information pack has details of some lovely sites to visit within a radius of less than four miles:
Calk Abbey - the ‘House that time forgot,’
Staunton Harold Garden Centre & woodland walks - once the home of the infamous Earl Ferrars who shot his steward and was subsequently hanged at Tyburn!
Breedon Church - A local land mark offering wonderful views of the surrounding countryside and home of the unique Breedon Angel.
Grace Dieu Priory - romantic ruins made famous by William Wordsworth and maybe catch a glimpse of its famous ghost!
Just a little further afield there is:
Ashby-de-la-Zouch - a quaint little market town with its individual shops, cafes and castle.
Moira Furnace - a fully restored blast furnace and museum offering boat rides on the Ashby canal and lovely walks around the adjoining parkland.
1620s House Donington Le Heath - a lovingly restored medieval manor house and gardens which was once home to the Digby family who were implicated in the gunpowder plot.
As for activities the area has plenty to offer:
Cycling/Walking/Horse Riding - The area abounds with cycling routes, footpaths and bridle ways. We have maps available plus the insider knowledge which comes with being keen walkers and cyclists ourselves and living in the area all our lives.
Bush Craft & Survival Skills - Literally down the road from us!
Woodland Crafts - Again two centres less than a mile away!
Fine dining, cheap and cheerful and all standards between are catered for within walking distance or a short drive.
Our information folder will point you in the direction to suit your taste and if you want to cook yourself, regular farmers markets are held at nearby towns, farm shops are located just a few miles down the road and several large supermarkets are located a short drive away.
Should you wish to explore any of these areas on two wheels we have a couple of bikes you may borrow or they can be hired locally. (The Hicks Lodge cycle centre is just six miles away with miles of off road tracks to enjoy).
Other things to note:
The studio is adjacent to our farm so you may get a visit from one of the farm dogs who likes to check us out at least once a day!
Her name is Flash and she is very friendly, but if you are nervous of dogs and prefer not to socialise with her we will ensure she remains on farm duty during your stay.
