About this property
Via Postumia apartments
A stop before boarding Genoa on ferries, a base for a view of the Serravalle Outlet, are just some of the reasons for a stay in via Postumia, with the possibility of discovering a past rich in history and a environment with unsuspected attractions: this is also why we thought of opening our old family home to guests.
Located in Isola del Cantone, half an hour by car from Genoa, an hour from Milan and an hour and a half from Turin, it is located in the street that still takes its name from the Roman consul who in the second century BC. C. connected Genoa to Aquileia with the road whose foundations are located under our garden and emerge here and there in the surroundings. Medieval history also affects us closely, with the foundation by the Benedictines of S. Michele della Chiusa from the monastery which gave rise to the nearby parish church and included the first nucleus of our house. The original rural aspect is preserved in the feudal period, which left numerous testimonies of castles and palaces in the territory of Isola. Since the end of the eighteenth century, when it was called in the documents "the house of the garden", several extensions gave the building its current proportions, while in the mid-nineteenth century the construction of the railway from Turin to Genoa separated most of the land from the house, leaving however a large green area facing it.
In recent years, renovations careful to preserve the existing have adapted the apartments to modern standards of comfort and safety, to better meet the needs of our guests.
Today our house is located in a residential area of the capital, a short distance from the railway station and the main services.
There are many possibilities for cultural tourism, starting from the Archaeological Museum of the Scrivia Valley, based in the Spinola di Isola castle, with evidence from the Iron Age, to continue with the Roman city of Libarna, only a quarter of now with us. Furthermore, in the village and in the hamlets there are the Spinola del Piano, Montessoro castles and the Pietrabissara palace. Half an hour from Isola are the ruins of the castle of Montoggio, where the last act of the Fieschi conspiracy took place. Still, a quarter of an hour's drive away, is the splendid Castello della Pietra, also reachable with a bicycle ride through the Val Vobbia, along the stream where it is possible to find refreshment in the summer. From here it is possible to enter the hiking network of the Antola Natural Park, where even mountain bikers can find new or almost unknown paths through abandoned woods and villages. A few minutes from us is the Ronco Scrivia kart track, and even closer, the Rio San Rocco path in Creverina has become an international reference point for canyoning enthusiasts. Some equestrian centers in the surroundings then organize horseback riding, while motorcyclists can appreciate the suggestive landscapes of the Scrivia Valley and the nearby valleys on memorable tours. For everyone, the opportunity to taste the typical cuisine of some restaurants in the area.
