The Neighborhood:
Pimlico is a well located neighborhood of quiet streets lined with stately 19th-century homes. Its proximity to the brilliant Tate Britain gallery and stylish Chelsea make it popular with travelers and locals alike. Located in the southern end of Pimlico, is the tranquil St. George’s Square Garden which has excellent views of the River Thames. To the north of Pimlico is St. John Smith Square, an iconic church and classical music venue, hosting up to 300 high quality concerts a year. Just a 15 minute walk down the road from Pimlico is Victoria where you can find West End musicals, Wicked and Hamilton, occasionally with tickets available on the day. Just walking distance in the other direction is the Chelsea area, where you can visit one of the oldest botanical gardens in London, the Chelsea Physic Garden, or brilliant Saatchi Gallery.
For a global selection of craft beers, ales, and gourmet burgers, try out the Cask Pub and Kitchen where musicians play hours of bluegrass music every Sunday afternoon. Tucked away down a Pimlico side street of the same name, Cambridge Street Kitchen is a café during the day and restaurant by night, worth visiting for the adventurous British locally-sourced menu. A long standing Pimlico favorite is Grumbles, a rustic restaurant with delicious seasonal food. Last but not least, head to The Orange, an upmarket gastropub that offers great beer and wood-fired pizzas. As for shopping opportunities, Pimlico offers many quirky and boutique shops, including Les Senteurs perfumery and the simplistically named, but excellently stocked, Discount Shoe Sales, where you can pick up a pair of high quality gentleman’s brogues for a surprisingly low price.
Try O Sole Mio or Grumbles on Churton Street, or Kazan on Wilton Road. There is every type of cuisine somewhere in the neighbourhood. The independent cafes are all good too - try Cafe Mignon on Warwick Way.
Walk! If you are reasonably fit and have a bit of time you can walk to Buckingham Palace, or Parliament Square, or even to Knightsbridge - you'll see much more of the real London that way. If you fancy something edgier head south instead - you'll find some good non-touristy pubs and clubs over the river in Vauxhall, or for a family friendly alternative how about Vauxhall City Farm?
Getting Around:
All London transport options are available. The nearest station is Victoria, just a 10 minute walk away, connecting you to all major overground and underground lines. There are buses locally too e.g. the 24 from Wilton Road to Parliament Square and Trafalgar Square. You can easily pick up a black cab in the street nearby (Warwick Way). Exploring London could hardly be easier!
