About this property

Converted Chapel in the bustling port of Brixham

Midholm Chapel is a characterful former church hall and historic local landmark. Originally built c1880, it has been lovingly converted to provide a bright, contemporary living space with all the home comforts you could wish for.

The Chapel is walking distance to the charming fishing port of Brixham, with easy access to the South Coast Path and a number of secluded coves and beaches. The delights of Dartmouth and Torbay are a short drive away.

The Chapel has a quirky 'upside down' layout with a double height entrance hallway, 3 bedrooms (1 en-suite), a family bathroom and garden room on the ground floor, and a sociable, open-plan first floor space which is flooded with light from the original chapel windows. The private courtyard garden is a sun trap in the afternoon (great for BBQs) and there is bench in the front courtyard which provides the perfect spot to watch the world go by.

Gorgeous chapel!
Upon arrival the chapel stands out, towering above the road, it’s an utterly gorgeous building. Check in was so easy as was check out. A truly beautiful space inside and outside. The space really suited us as a family of 4 (kids ages 13 & 3) as we each had a bedroom and our teenager had the snug space upstairs and loved it. There were a few niggles however, including, that we just didn’t feel the cleanliness was of the standard of a place where you are spending quite a bit per night. There were many cobwebs around and we found rubbish and old socks under one of the sofas in the snug. The table cloth I’m not sure had been wiped between guests and my daughter’s white socks came off black after running around for the afternoon! Not sure the dishwasher is working 100% either as most things needed a wash upon getting them from the cupboards. We noticed that there were no cupboards for putting our food in so it just sat on the worktop. Sadly we couldn’t open the conservatory door as the smell of damp was just so strong! Cleanliness aside, the building itself is lovely but maybe could just do with a really good spring clean!

Harding 75th Birthday Holiday
All was excellent, and comfortable. Very impressed with the layout, rooms, furnishings, fixtures and fittings. Some minor items (En suite WC leaks, and a broken drawer) need repair. We will return!

About the host

Host profile image
Midholm Chapel is owned by two sisters (Zoe & Fay). We have enjoyed many family holidays in Devon and wanted to own a property that we could enjoy with our children for years to come.
Midholm Chapel is a ‘happy place’ for all the family and a truly special home from home.

Why they chose this property

It was love at first sight! We knew we wanted to buy somewhere special and unique and this ticked all the boxes. The beautiful stone façade of the building, combined with the quality of the contemporary conversion, blends historic charm with the very best of modern living.
The space is bright, rooms are generous and the open plan family space is perfect for hosting gatherings. The property is perfectly quirky and quirkily perfect! We both felt immediately ‘at home’ when we walked through the door.

What makes this property unique

Bright and airy open plan living space
Good sized bedrooms
Private stone-walled courtyard
Walking distance to Brixham Harbour
Fabulous coastal walks and sandy coves nearby
