The cottage is a perfect holiday location for a family or two smaller families with 450 acres literally on the doorstep and south Devon's beaches less than a mile away.

Two well behaved dogs are very welcome although we do ask that they do not stay in the one carpeted bedroom (Bedroom 1). Please contact me if you want to bring more than 2 dogs.

Parking for one car is provided at a nearby car park (less than 100 yards away).
Other things to note
Between March and October each year we operate a Tea Garden at the rear of the property between 9am and 5pm. Your privacy is not impinged, your courtyard garden is private and the Tea Garden's kitchen, although in the same building, is secured from the rest of the cottage.

A beautiful cottage in a stunning location. The cottage itself was lovely and met all our needs. We had the most wonderful holiday and would be happy to return again in the future.

A fantastic character cottage.
Weaver’s cottage lived up to all our expectations. Perfectly located in the heart of the historic Cockington Village and on the doorstep of all the country park, this charming cottage provide all we needed and more for a comfortable stay. Our only regret is that we did not book a longer stay!! The owner was friendly and always on hand if needed and we look forward to returning again in the future.

About the host

Hosted by Gordon England

Host profile image
We came to hosting via two of our children who are in the Armed Forces, they purchased property near to us and asked us to manage their properties whilst away on service.
We bought Weavers Cottage early this year (2022) as our forever home and new business. We run a Tea Garden from the rear but cannot move into the property as my 93 year old father lives with us nearby and has his own space in our current home all on the ground floor, therefore we are delighted to give you the opportunity to stay in our circa 400 year old home with all mod cons in the most idyllic village imaginable.

Why they chose this property

Weavers Cottage is reputedly one of the oldest buildings in Cockington. Until 1939 it was the Home Farm to Cockington Court, the buildings to the rear would all have been part of the farm and the current kitchen was the milking parlor. In 1939 the Mills family, Cockington-based Weavers, purchased the cottage and renamed it Weavers Cottage, there is a debate regarding whether an apostrophe appeared in this renaming, whether it was named Weavers’; Weaver’s or Weavers, whilst being a grammar nerd I feel is should be Weavers’, I’ve had to concede to what is hanging over the front door currently!
Initially the Mills family used the first floor as their accommodation and the ground floor as a weaving workshop and retail shop. In 1951 they outgrew the residential accommodation but weaving continued in the cottage until 1996 and trading until 1999. You may spot the odd handloom and winding wheel still in the cottage and allegedly some of the marks on the floor of the two bedrooms with wooden floors are as a result of these handlooms.
Since 1999 Weavers Cottage has been used as a Tea Room under numerous owners. We have bought it to be our home and Tea Garden but currently my 93 year old Dad lives with us in our specially adapted house, so whilst we are looking forward to making it home, we hope that it won’t be too soon.
We have refurbished the whole property, maintaining the charm but making it significantly more comfortable and luxurious than it would have been in past centuries!

What makes this property unique

Weavers Cottage is one of the most photographed cottages in England, appearing in this year's "Charm of England" calendar for May and the front cover.
Whilst it has the dark beams you'd expect of a cottage built in the 1700's it has an impressive family kitchen with an island that can seat 8 with all mod-cons built in what was once the milking parlour.
At the rear of the property we operate a Tea Garden, at the time of writing (May 2022) rated Torquay's 5th best restaurant where we serve Breakfast, Lunch and of course, Devonshire Cream Teas and once we close (at 4:30pm) the Tea Garden is yours to chase the sun and eat al fresco.
