As promised but not without problems

Our stay was somewhat blighted by serious problems at check-in. The owner was to meet us or send an access code but was not there when we arrived. Our US phone could not get a signal strong enough for email so we tried the phone number for the owner listed on the VRBO site. When it was answered by an elderly lady who did not know the owner, we were seriously panicked, thinking we had been scammed. Fortunately, a helpful neighbor did know the owner, had his number and called him for us, getting the codes we needed to get in. This was not the only problem with the listing either - we were told we would have to clean the apartment or pay a cleaning fee but we had already been charged and paid a cleaning fee that was not optional. All of this really did not start the visit out well. That being said, the apartment is very convenient to the heart of Concarneau, the photos in the listing are accurate and we were comfortable. The kitchen has basic equipment and the appliances are new. One oddity for France, though - only 2 mismatched wine glasses?! The owner left a gift of local specialities by our door our final evening but they would have been more welcome as an apology after our problems checking in than as additional luggage hours before departure. Recommendations to the owner: provide info on how to use the oven and cooktop, extra trash bags and more glasses.
