About this property

The Oaks - Award Winning Barn Conversion In Hope Village Near To Castleton

The Barn at Mead Farm is a truly special place on the doorstep of the Pennine Way. With views throughout the Hope Valley, and the iconic Lose Hill, Win Hill and Kinder Scout range right on your doorstep it really is the perfect place to come and get away from it all.

The Barn has been lovingly rebuilt in the original stone to reflect its history but with the benefits of modern living within. The bedrooms feature vaulted ceilings with exposed beams and trusses. The ground floors are fully tiled with underfloor heating, with traditional radiators in the bedrooms. The original barn has been divided into two separate holiday barns, the smaller being The Acorn which sleeps two and the larger being The Oaks which will sleep five, all with ensuite bedrooms.

Light and airy with a contemporary feel, The Barn is an ideal place to relax after a long day exploring the area whether walking, cycling or sightseeing and taking in the many local attractions. The Barn is totally non-smoking, as are the outdoor patio and terrace.

Both barns have central heating and are fully equipped with everything you will need for a home away from home. We provide all towels and bedlinen.

There are paved patio areas to the front and rear of The Barn, both enjoying superb views across the Hope Valley. There is a sheltered patio with picnic tables for the summer months where you can enjoy views over Win Hill. Guests are also welcome to explore the private farmland where we have a flock of sheep grazing with their lambs in the spring season.

There is off road parking provided in front of the barn and lockable storage for bikes and other outdoor equipment.

Mead Farm is situated in the heart of The Peak National Park with easy access to walks in every direction. With views to both Win Hill and Lose Hill, it is in an area of outstanding beauty, but within easy reach of local amenities.

The village of Hope has a variety of local shops and pubs. There is a fridge and freezer in both barns and plenty of storage space for groceries.

The railway station is about a mile away from the village with regular trains between Manchester and Sheffield. There is a bus route which runs through to Sheffield from Castleton.

Castleton is the busiest village in the area with plenty of places of interest to visit - The Blue John Mine, Speedwell Cavern, Treak Cliff Cavern, Peveril Castle to name just a few. There are several interesting shops selling jewellery and gifts and a variety of places to eat and drink.

The Barn is a short walk from The Cheshire Cheese Inn just along Edale Road. The Cheese has all the warmth of a traditional English pub with a friendly welcome good food and drink and a great atmosphere. It has a regular folk music night on the first Thursday of the month which is a real local institution and great fun.

The Oaks is a three bedroom barn sleeping up to 5 people. It features a bedroom with a king sized bed and ensuite bathroom with bath/shower, a twin bedroom with ensuite shower, and a single bedroom on the ground floor also with an ensuite shower.

It has a fitted kitchen with electric hob and oven, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, microwave, kettle and cafetiere, iron and ironing board and all of the crockery, pans and utensils required for your stay.

The living area is open plan. For your entertainment there is a TV/DVD and wi-fi internet access.

Bedlinen and towels are provided for your comfort.

We provide lockable storage for bikes and other outdoor equipment.

We also have a second holiday barn here on Mead Farm called The Acorn which sleeps 2 people. The barns can be booked separately or together allowing up to 7 people to be comfortably accommodated.

About the host

Growing up in the flat farming county of East Anglia, holidays were spent travelling up to the Peak District to explore the rolling hills. Having fallen in love with the area, we decided to make it a permanent thing and moved to a small farm in the heart of the area in 2014 and haven't looked back since!

Why they chose this property

Mead Farm sits on the edge of the charming village of Hope in the very heart of the Peak District. Nestled between the iconic Kinder Scout, Win Hill and Lose Hill you couldn't hope for a better spot from which to explore the area.

What makes this property unique

With so many great walks available straight from the front door its easy to leave the car and the hustle and bustle of modern life behind and really relax. Or if you fancy exploring slightly further afield there are some wonderful country houses and stately homes dotted throughout the national park, all within 30 minutes drive of The Barn.
