About this property

Historic Mercer Guest Suite 4 The Shepherdess

Our family owned Historic Mercer provides boutique accommodations in a lively small town setting. Elevator or stairs for guests. Rates include cleaning fees. Beautiful original floors & stunning 8' x 3' windows. Built in 1906 truly "green"! Full kitchen, bathroom & Yakima Valley views. Fast Wifi, Smart TV & great beds (headboard raises!) and central AC and heat provide super relaxation. Head downstairs for morning coffee, breakfast or lunch or weekly live music at Brewminatti; we offer complimentary Mercer Estates wine & access to our on-premises gym/yoga studio. We designed this suite with a nod to our female ancestors, but everyone will love the bed and 12' ceilings!

Why stay at a truck stop or outskirts location when you can walk from the Historic Mercer to public tennis courts, Prosser's seasonal Saturday farmer's market or Aquatic Center, local brew pubs and fun eateries in the community. Don't worry if you need a cook-in item - the community grocer is a block away! A great cycling trail links lower valley communities or try great golfing in surrounding communities. What better way to relax after a day tasting wine that with a good walk around tree lined streets or walking down to local eateries? Prosser is home to the Washington Wine industry where you can enjoy over 40 local wineries! It's also located in the largest hop growing region in the world. This friendly little community hosts numerous community events from Bottles, Brews and BBQs to the annual fall Balloon Rally. Check TourProsser website for more info. I

no entry to property
when we got to the property, instructions were to enter through a gate with a code. when opening the gate a steep set of stairs were too steep for our limited physical abilities to climb , the only other entry was a outer door to the left, with no sign of any kind that it was affiliated with the property, the code to the gate was the same as the outer door but did not allow entry. .we called the host and were told that she could climb the stairs just fine. the property is not accessible as written in the instructions.as a result we did not use the property. we are not happy that we paid for a property that we were not able to use. please forward the message to the host as well.

Very unique property. So happy we found it!! Perfect for two. Very clean and well stocked. Didn’t hurt me to go without TV, instructions would be helpful. The bed was the best! I am on a hunt to find that mattress for home. People were so nice in Prosser, suggested a place for dinner and even made reservations for us!! We will return…

Very sweet place!
Very cute and very clean. Updated and fully stocked kitchen. Very comfortable bed. Updated bathroom. Just be prepared to walk up 35 stairs to your room or take the very slow elevator. We’re 70+ and did the stairs just fine. Did a couple of wine tastings and drove to Walla Walla for a few more tastings from our favorite wineries. Had a great weekend. We’d definitely stay here again!

Model for all VRBOs!
Can’t say enough good things about this wonderful VRBO. Small, but equipped with everything one or two guests could need. Excellent bottle of wine was an added touch. Thank you Julie for a wonderful stay!

Host profile image
I'm a Santa Barbara based designer from a large Washington ranching and viticulture (wine - Mercer Estates) family and value living in places that respect the land, waterways and oceans. My career was primarily focused on helping communities create thriving and healthy downtowns. Then I began a second career designing fantastic living spaces in many different venues from tropical Maui, urban Seattle, historic properties to beach town and outdoor living Santa Barbara.

Why they chose this property

Acquiring the the historic commercial Mercer building has provided me with the opportunity to open up a beautiful property with its original architecture (wood floors and 12' ceilings) intact for visiting guests. Complete with full kitchens this property is centered in the heart and home of the Washington wine industry. I'm passionate about creating beautiful spaces for people to vacation, live, enjoy entertainment, love, relax and cook! My background in community design, interior design and international travel has enabled me to see and experience beautiful buildings, architecture, and hotels. I'm always on the hunt for great textiles and fabrics to share with guests. "Sense of place" that reflects local sensibilities is important to me and something I try to bring in all my projects!

What makes this property unique

This handsome turn of the century property built by great grandfather Willis Mercer features 12' ceilings, 8 ' windows, beautiful original woodwork and wooden floors. Its a beautiful example of downtown Mission style brick buildings. Come enjoy!
