About this property

A 19th century stone-built house in downtown Ermoupolis.

Welcoming and airy, painted in earthy colours that reflect light and emit that special Cyclades feel. Tastefully decorated with handmade pieces of furniture and ceramic creations, it is authentic, yet unpretentious.
The house has two entrances. The main entrance is through an old iron door at number 30, which leads to ‘avlidaki’, the Greek word for the small front yard. You are greeted by a small cistern with its marble-sculpted mouth and lots of flowers.
The living room, one double bedroom, the children’s bedroom with the loft, and the kitchen are all located on the ground floor.
Walk up three steps and you will find yourself on the elevated part of the ground floor, where the bathroom, the study and the back entrance to the house are located.
From here, a wooden staircase will lead you to the first floor with its two bedrooms and the grand open veranda.
The house is located in an advantageous position, being as it is on a pedestrian-only alley but with easy access by car or taxi. You can park your vehicle within a distance of just 50 metres. If you want to use the free municipal mini bus service, the nearest stop is 100 metres away.
Walk a few steps from the main entrance and you will find the paved steps that will take you down the slope and into the central square and Ermoupolis market area in 3 minutes. If you walk up the slope, you will find yourself in the medieval historic neighbourhood of Ano Syros.
If you walk eastwards and wander through the picturesque narrow streets of the city, you will soon come to the ‘Apollo Theatre’, St. Nicholas Church and impressive ‘Vaporia’ area. A few steps down will take you to the unique ‘Asteria’ beach for a refreshing swim.
Upon your arrival, we will send you a digital travel guide to the island complete with our suggestions for an unforgettable holiday experience on Syros (beaches, sights, places to eat etc.)

What makes this property unique

The house has a long history of almost two centuries. We chose to name it so because, during the restoration work, an old coin dating from 1830 was discovered hidden in a crack of the old wooden floor.
It is an authentic specimen of the first coin, called the ‘Phoenix’, minted by the state of modern Greece after independence. This discovery is testimony to the history, the beauty and the strength of this house. As we all know, the legendary bird Phoenix is a strong symbol of rebirth. Therefore, our house has been reborn and is open to receive you, our guests.
