We absolutely loved our stay at the Garden Cottage. The owners were so helpful and kindly lent us some fantastic books about the area, along with great local advice. The cottage was spotless and had everything we needed. The garden is beautiful and the views are just stunning – such a peaceful and special place. We only wish we lived closer, as we’d love to stay often!

We stayed during the Easter holidays with our two children. Thankfully we had gorgeous weather so went on plenty of walks and bbq’d most evenings. A gorgeous, clean, quiet cottage
Our stay at the garden cottage was absolutely delightful! The cottage was spotless, beautifully decorated, and surrounded by peaceful greenery that made it feel like a true retreat. The garden was well-maintained and full of charm, perfect for enjoying a morning coffee or an evening drink. The host was warm and welcoming, ensuring everything we needed was available. We loved the cozy atmosphere, quiet location, and the attention to detail that made our stay extra special. Highly recommended for anyone looking for comfort, relaxation, and a touch of nature!

Julie's garden cottage is a delight. Beautiful peaceful location and lots of amenities just a short drive away. Julie's little touches of milk in the fridge and biscuits for hungry children always on the hunt for snacks was very thoughtful. :-)
The cottage was beautiful, comfortable and spotlessly clean with everything we needed. Julie was friendly and kind, and catered brilliantly for our needs. I would be very happy to stay there again.

Our Canonbie stay was wonderful— the cottage was very clean, the beds beyond comfortable, and Julie provided us with local info and recommendations. Walks and nature views were tops. The only negative was that we couldn’t stay longer.

Plenty of everything! The host was very accomodating and kind and the cottage had everything available. Well equipped kitchen, lovely and clean bathroom and beautiful garden area onsite. The bed was very comfortable and even a little wood stove for a cozy fire (starter kit of wood/fire starters, too). Great place for a get away.

About the host
Hosted by Julie Taylor
Paul and I lived in London for about 50 years and then moved to the Yorkshire Dales in 2015. We ran a 5 star/10 Bed Holiday Let in Askrigg and lived in Garsdale, Sedbergh. In 2020 we decided to move to Canonbie, just over the Border into Scotland. This move gave us the opportunity to have more gardening opportunities, which we love, and to have our Holiday Lets on the site where we live. We have refurbished the cottages and hope you enjoy them as much as we have enjoyed refurbishing them.
Why they chose this property
We chose this property because of the location and history of the property. It gives us the opportunity to grow our own fruit and vegetables. We also let two of the cottages, which were originally Steadings and were converted by the previous owners.
What makes this property unique
The main house, built in 1850, was originally the residence of the Head Forester for the Eskdale Estates of the Duke of Buccleuch. There are local walks along the River Esk, The Fairy Loup waterfall and the Reiver trail to name just a few. Plenty of wildlife is also in the surrounding vicinity, and the River Esk is enjoyed by many fishermen.
