Amazing weekend break
There is nothing to not love about this property or its location! We have had a great family weekend here exploring the local area and relaxing in front of the log burner watching the wildlife from the amazing picture windows! The lodge is well kept and very clean with everything that you need provided to make your stay comfortable. The location is quiet so perfect for wildlife watching.. we had an up close visit from a red squirrel which was amazing! The walks and Penrith are close and easy to get to which is great for exploring or buying anything you may have forgotten! Cant rate this property enough and the communication from the owners was extremely helpful.. giving us updates on what was happening over the weekend we were there which was very useful! We would love to return and explore the area more. Wouldnt hesitate booking this lodge again!

Lovely stay
We had a lovely stay here. The cabin is quiet and spacious with everything you need and there are plenty of squirrels and rabbits running around on the grounds. The location is good. We love to stay somewhere quiet and then decide what touristy things to go and do - and there are plenty just a short journey away. Thanks for the many leaflets and folder of info on things to do. This was a great help. The neatest pub is in Greystoke just a 10 minute drive, serving lovely food. Overall a lovely holiday

About the host

Moyra and Colin were born in the Newcastle upon Tyne area of the North east, and spent many holidays in the Lake District, when they were growing up. Life took them away from the area to Newcastle under Lyme, where they worked in education, but they would always visit different areas of the Lakes when they got the chance.
A few years ago an opportunity to buy one of the lodges on Dukes Meadow arose and they were fortunate enough to buy it..
Since then they have significantly upgraded the property, and still have further plans for improvement.

Why they chose this property

We first rented this property for a few days. We travelled up one February day to arrive late at the lodge on a snowy night. We got in, put the woodburner on and felt a bit better. It was of course pitch black outside and we couldn't see a thing. Next morning we opened the curtains in the lounge, to be met by a beautiful open view of the surrounding fields covered in snow. Deer were munching on leaves at a nearby tree and red squirrels were eating nuts from the feeder on the decking.
It was a game changing moment for us. The tranquil open view was so peaceful, and the wildlife so close up and unconcerned by our presence, that we decided this was going to be the place for us.
Since then we have upgraded and modernised the lodge,, to enhance the Scandinavian style.
It is surrounded by a large lawned garden with a stream running through it. Also, there are some sizeable trees within the grounds which contribute to its charm.

What makes this property unique

The living room view is the key reason why we fell in love with the lodge. The wood panelling throughout the lodge is lovely and the woodburner is almost a reason to stay in rather than go out! Wood is provided as are nuts and seeds for the feeders. You can sit at the dining table and look through the full length windows at the squirrels literally a few feet away.
The lodge is around 30 mins drive from Ullswater and Derwentwater, and 15 minutes from Penrith. Traffic is minimal, you are more likely to be held up by a farmer herding his sheep along the road than anything else. The views on the drives to the lakes themselves are of course beautiful, and Keswick offers excellent shopping facilities. Glenridding on Ullswater can be reached by car or launch from Pooley Bridge. There are some great walks from this spot, and the most stunning cricket ground I have ever seen which doubles as a car park in nearby Patterdale.
