Founded in the 8th century BC, Naples was among the most important cities of Magna Graecia and exercised a considerable commercial, cultural and religious influence on the surrounding Italic populations.
After the collapse of the Roman Empire, in the 8th century the city formed a duchy, and later, from the thirteenth century and for about six hundred years, it was the capital of the Kingdom of Naples, to then become the capital of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies until the unification of Italy.
Headquarters of the University of Federico II, the oldest state university in Europe, it also houses the ‘Orientale’ University, the oldest university of synological and oriental studies in Europe. Place of origin of the Neapolitan language, Naples has exercised and exercises a strong role in numerous fields of knowledge and culture.
Naples is also the cradle of the figurative arts: in fact, original architectural and pictorial movements were born, such as the Caravaggism, the Posillipo school and the Neapolitan Liberty, as well as minor but internationally important arts, such as Capodimonte porcelain and the Neapolitan manger.
Naples Capodichino airport is located only 7 kms away from the apartment while the train station is 3 kms away.
