About this property

Historic Renovation Award Winner!! 5 Stars!!

This beautiful Freedman's cottage is in the historic district of Beaufort, with a view of the Beaufort river, 2 blocks from Bay Street, and a 10 minute walk to downtown Bay Street, Marina, riverfront park, restaurants and shopping. The cottage features the original reclaimed heart pine tongue in groove hardwood floors in the living room and master bedroom. Shiplap walls are in the living room and hallway areas. Plantation shutters allow both light and privacy throughout the house. The spacious living room has a queen sized sleeper sofa and two high wingback chairs with ottomans. The wall features a large built in bookcase with a well stocked library and a 50" HD television. The master bedroom has a king size bed with decorative headboard, ceiling to floor drapes, a double door closet, and an armoire with HD television and clothes drawers. The master bath has a double vanity with marble countertops and a beautiful large floor to ceiling tile shower with glass doors. The guest room is luxurious in it's own right, with a beautiful 4-post queen bed, end tables, two book cases with a small TV, and hanging rods for clothing. The guest bath has a marble countertop vanity and a tub/shower tiled shower with penny tile inlays. The kitchen and dining room are the real showplace! All stainless steel appliances feature a French door Electrolux refrigerator/freezer, farmhouse sink with garbage disposal, dishwasher, oven/range, microwave, and coffee maker. Marble countertops and tile backsplash add to the luxury, as does a butcher block island with bar seating and a separate dining room table with chandelier. Outside relaxation can be found in a private screened-in back porch with ceiling fan, or enjoy the sunset over the Beaufort river in the rocking chairs or porch swings on the front porch. This cottage is finishing up it's final details during June, but will be totally complete and ready for rental July 1st, 2017. Don't miss out on booking the newest luxury rental cottage in Beaufort!!

Highly recommend
This was our 2nd visit. Enjoy Beaufort for the mix of good restaurants, history, friendly people, and things to do. This house is a very good location - quite in the evenings, easy walk to Beaufort proper, or to bike rentals which expand your range. The house is well equipped and hosts Allen and Dawn or great hosts.

Gracious Low Country Escape
A wonderful place to stay while visiting the area. The freedman’s cottage is very comfortable and well designed. The new parts of the cottage are equipped with the best of everything. The historic areas are well maintained. It is easy to slip away to a simpler time sitting on the porch with an iced tea. Very convenient to the best shops and restaurants. Excellent location!

Can't say enough good things about this little house that has been lovingly restored and decorated! View of water from front porch, breakfast spot a block away and Pat Conroy museum right next door. Well equipped with books and games. Stay here and fall in love with Beaufort!

Very nice!
Wonderful location. Very comfortable, clean, new, and bright home. Located in the heart of the historic district with short walks to downtown and the waterfront and a short bike ride to the Spanish Moss trail. Wish we could have stayed longer. Hope to return again soon.

Allen Is a Ford Dealer in Dalton, GA ... He and Dawn were married in 2010. Dawn formerly had her own business, Clearly Fun Soaps, and was the 2008 Georgia Small Business Person of the Year. This cottage has been a long standing dream for both of us, and we've put every effort in to making in both luxurious and relaxing, while maintaining the historic charm and authenticity of the cottage. We're sure you will enjoy your stay here!!

Why they chose this property

This house is a "Freedman's Cottage", which were built by the U.S. government for freed slaves in the late 19th and early 20th century. This cottage, built in 1900, is listed on the Beaufort historic registry. We both felt this house was in a great location, and with some care and TLC, could be made into a real showplace!

What makes this property unique

Walking distance from downtown Beaufort, a wonderful view of Bay Street and the Beaufort River, and a very quiet, private setting.
