About this property

Porthtowan Lodge eco-home, short walk to beach and coastal path.

This lovely timber holiday home is located in a small resort of similar properties, just a few minutes' walk from Porthtowan beach, village and coastal paths. The house is at the heart of the resort in an elevated position and with a private rear access direct from its own parking space. It has a spacious and enclosed rear terrace, a front veranda, and a first floor balcony that offer privacy and the option of sun or shade all day long. The high speed fibre internet connection makes the house ideal for even the most demanding of internet users or for remote working.

The house has many sustainable features including cedar cladding, a sedum turf roof, very high levels of insulation, an integrated ventilation system with heat recovery and a heat pump / air conditioning unit. The resort is located in a sheltered coastal valley, and was carefully designed to blend in beautifully with the surrounding landscape.

Village amenities include a small grocery store, children's playground, surf hire and tuition and numerous cafes and pub / restaurants including the famous Blue Bar and newly refurbished Unicorn On The Beach.

The ground floor is very spacious and light with three glazed doors and side windows. The lounge area has two large leather sofas, coffee table, and a 43 in. Smart TV. The dining area has a large and sturdy oak dining set and a third leather sofa. The kitchen is separate and also large and well-equipped with a view to the rear and back terrace. There is also a WC on the ground floor.

The rear of the house is open right up to the roof with huge windows which greet the morning sun in summer. A staircase leads to the first floor.

The first floor has high quality laminate flooring throughout and tiles in the bathrooms. The main bedroom is large and has a delightful balcony with a fine view over the rooftops to the surrounding countryside and this gets the sun for most of the day . This room has a king size bed, a wardrobe and chest of drawers plus a good sized en suite with electric shower. Two more bedrooms offer a double bed and twin beds , both with storage space and hanging rails. The shared family bathroom has a full size bath with bath / shower mixer, plus wash basin and WC.

The spacious rear terrace gets the sun in the morning and provides an ideal spot for breakfast, or to rinse off and relax after a swim or surf. There is access directly from the allocated parking space and it is enclosed which will be especially useful if you are bringing the family pet.

Enjoyable break in Cornwall
The property is lovely - exactly as described. A few potholes in the shared access road need filling but that is being ultra picky. Would definately stay again and recommend

Very enjoyable stay in a lovely place
Very nice property in a great location. We particularly enjoyed the coastal walks as the weather wasn't ideal for the beach, although we did still manage a couple of days at the beach. The property was extremely comfortable to stay in, well equipped and for the most part very clean. As I'm very tall the king size bed was fantastic for me, like home from home. Lots of great communication from the owner and plenty of detailed instructions were provided for our stay. We hope to return in the future.

Porthtowan trip
Lovely holiday destination, accommodation had everything you need, walking distance to a couple of nice pubs, cafe and gorgeous beach. No phone signal in the bay but the lodge has good Wi-Fi and felt good having no coverage out and about

About the host

Gordon and his Norwegian wife Bodil have many years experience of owning, renting and staying in holiday homes in Cornwall, Dorset, Bristol, Cheltenham and also many places in Norway as part of our business as specialist travel agents. After 30 years living by the sea in West Dorset, in 2020 we moved to Cornwall to be close to our adult children. We think this is our ultimate destination.

Why they chose this property

We rented a house in Towan Valley resort several times before the opportunity arose to buy one. We jumped at the chance and chose one in the best possible location.

We especially like the Porthtowan area for many reasons, not least easy access in about 1.5 hours on the A30 from the end of the M5 at Exeter. It is also an ideal location for day excursions, with nearly all of west Cornwall being less than an hour's drive away and much of it closer. The local area offers superb beaches, stunning scenery and endless coastal walks, plus the rich mining heritage which is always fascinating.

What makes this property unique

10 Trevenna belongs to our good friends David and Carol. We have a soft spot for this one because it is the one we rented when we first discovered Towan Valley. We especially like it because you so quickly feel at home there, whether the sun is shining outside or if you need somewhere cosy to curl up while a storm passes.

The furnishings, and decor give the house some real character which is so often lacking in resort accommodation. The elevated position with direct access from the car park to the rear terrace makes it especially practical and ideal for guests with pets. We hope you will enjoy staying there as much as we did.
