Sea air and starry nights - there's space for two and your four legged friend.
Tucked behind the high street and just two minutes from the beach, this light-filled little house is the perfect base for exploring the North Norfolk coast and countryside. It’s cosy but cool – a place for slow mornings, sea air, and switching off.
Step outside and you’re moments from shops, cafés, museums and galleries. Head a little further for windswept walks along the salt marsh or birdwatching on the coast path and if you’re bonkers enough to brave the waves, the sea is literally just down the street!
Small, simple, and full of charm – a place to breathe out, settle in, and soak up a slower pace of life - you can even bring the dog...
Layout
Shrimp’s interior reflects its fun, coastal location with a nod to the end-of-the-pier and the surf culture that has grown up along the chalk reef between East Runton and Mundesley.
Inside, you’ll find original oiled timber floors, conservation roof lights, and big windows with custom wooden shutters. The space is compact and full of character - perfect for two.
Upstairs in the ‘Upper Circle’, there’s a cosy bedroom, and through the original timber door, a simple plaster-finished wet room with a brick slip floor and a large overhead rain shower, powered by a generous hot water supply.
Downstairs, the traditional painted kitchen includes a sweet little window seat - ideal for sitting with a mug of tea and watching the world go by. It’s fully equipped with integrated appliances, and there’s a cupboard with a washer-dryer and space to stash your wellies.
The open-plan layout includes a built-in bench with a table for dining or a bit of laptop time, leading onto a bright, comfy seating area with a smart TV and winding stairs that take you to the bedroom.
Heating and hot water are powered by an energy-efficient, Hive-controlled electric boiler, and there’s also a lovely Everhot cast iron electric stove - perfect for warming your toes or heating up a mince pie in winter.
Sleeping Arrangements
One cosy bedroom with a flexible bed that can be set up as a king-size double or two singles - perfect for couples or close friends. Feather duvets, plump pillows, and fresh cotton linen... you might miss the tide!
Exterior
Wide French windows open onto a sunny, walled courtyard - a lovely spot to sit with a book or enjoy coffee and a chat. If you’re into surfing or wild swimming, there’s space outside to stash your board and hang your wetsuit out to dry. A back gate leads behind the cottages to the street - handy if you’re bringing a bike.
Local Area
Tucked just behind the high street and a few minutes’ walk from the beach, Shrimp sits in a row of traditional painted fishermen’s cottages in the centre of Cromer. You’re steps from local shops, cafés, galleries, and museums—everything you need is right on your doorstep. Head down the street and you’ll reach the promenade and Cromer’s sand and shingle beach, with lifeguards on duty from late May through to early September. Surf lessons are available nearby, and the iconic pier offers a classic seaside experience with cafés, kiosks, and fantastic views. Explore quieter stretches of coast towards Overstrand, where you’ll find beach huts and dog-friendly spots, or venture further afield for cliff top coastal walks, birdwatching, historic parks, estates and market towns. Shrimp makes a great base for discovering everything North Norfolk has to offer.

There aren't enough words to say how glorious Shrimp Cottage is, everything was such a high specification, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Everything had been thought of and provided and so many lovely touches. The host Paula kept us well informed. Cottage is really close to the car park and the town. A perfect stay, even the sun shined.

What a lovely review - thank you! Probably the best thing about shrimp is where it is - Cromer is such a fun, happy place and when you’re staying at shrimp everything is on your doorstep. Travel light and take the train…walk out the door and along the Coast path…stay close and hit the beach or jump on the bus and explore further afield. Whatever you choose, you can nip back to relax in your own private space and a crisp, comfortable bed…Night!
Lovely cottage right in the heart of Cromer, host was extremely useful and made us feel very comfortable and welcomed. Highly recommend and would definitely stay here again.

Thanks so much for your kind review, absolute pleasure to have you to stay and delighted you had a lovely time - Cromer is such a fun place with some great little independent shops & cafes. I can recommend staying in the Winter & Spring - great National Trust properties and walks along clifftops and shoreline. Do come & visit us again!
Perfectly proportioned cottage, beautifully decorated and everything within walking distance of good eateries and shops. Walk to the beach in minutes!

Thanks David, so lovely to hear you had a great time. The weather has been kind to you but I also recommend Winter weather by the coast - crisp mornings and high seas with lots of twinkly light shows to visit and cosy pubs to hunker down in! Hope to see you both again!
Beautifully decorated, super clean and some lovely touches on arrival. Everything available that you could need.Could’ve done with a couple of chairs for the beautiful courtyard. Perfect spot for a cuppa and a bacon sandwich though. Thank you for a lovely stay.
The cottage was perfect for a short break after Christmas.
Everything we needed was there and presented like a show home
Great communication with the owner throughout.
It's ideal for a couple to explore Cromer.
Just brilliant and I'm sure we'll be back

Thank you so much for visiting Cromer and choosing to stay at Shrimp - I have to say you really were the perfect guests - soooo tidy! Such a shame you missed the New Year's Day fireworks on the beach they really are a must - maybe next year - we would love to have you back to stay! Many thanks again.
Lovely well equipped property. We had a fabulous week in Cromer. The beach walks were thoroughly enjoyed by ourselves & our pooch. Shrimp is very well located for town, the beach & the car park (very handy to charge e vehicle).
Would also highly recommend The Gangway in Cromer for a relaxed cocktail or two!

Thanks Julia - sorry I missed your review - Love the Gangway but it has changed hands and changed its name to Shoreline. It’s still great and still has a quiz night and excellent cocktails!!
A beautiful cottage with excellent facilities.
Based in the town, Shrimp Cottage is a perfect base close to all the amenities.
We had such a fantastic stay & fell in love with this perfect little abode, tastefully decorated throughout with lots of interesting features.
Paula & Simon thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to stay in your little sanctuary.
We will definitely be back to stay again.
Spent a couple of days with the dog. Centrally located. Weather was great. Swarming with day trippers so only just managed to find a space in the nearby carpark which was empty nearer nightfall. Spotlessly clean and beautifully interior designed in all areas. Would have liked outside table and chairs which would be just about possible with the size of the yard. Quiet night's sleep with extremely comfortable bed and great bedlinen. Please note restaurants close early and so do most of the take aways. Really thoughtful dog bowls, plastic bags and treats. Brought us joy to stay somewhere so pretty. Tricky using the code entry which we managed in the end. Still like this better than a person showing us around and boring us to death when we just want to get in and settled after a long journey. Thank the owner for such attention to detail as is rare to see this high standard.

Thanks Theresa - very lucky with the weather and really pleased you enjoyed your stay. The Autumn is much less crowded and the sea is just glorious with crashing waves - would be great to welcome you back, some of my favourite times are out of season… just saying!
