As soon as we arrive, the sea immediately captures our attention with its vastness. The bay is flanked by the beautiful Arrábida Mountains to the east and Porto de Abrigo to the west. The municipality of Sesimbra boasts an Atlantic coastline stretching over 40 km, from Lagoa de Albufeira—a national ecological reserve—to the Arrábida Mountains, where you can enjoy many beaches with fine sand and emerald-green waters. Praia da Califórnia is an 8-minute walk away, and the idyllic beaches of Galapinhos, Portinho da Arrábida, and Ribeiro de Cavalo—among many others—are easily accessible by car or bicycle.

If you love water sports, you’ll also find a wide range of activities to choose from, such as kitesurfing, scuba diving, snorkelling, fishing, boat tours, dolphin watching, and many more.

In town, a stroll along the waterfront promenade by the beach is a must, as is a visit to the historic town centre, which preserves the soul of a fishing village and where you should explore some of the town’s iconic landmarks, such as the Fortress of Santiago, the Chapel of the Holy Spirit, and Sesimbra Castle, which retains its medieval architecture. Further west, about 15 km away, don’t miss a visit to Cabo Espichel, where you’ll likely find one of the most breathtaking landscapes in Portugal!

The cuisine in Sesimbra is deeply rooted in the sea. Fish, mollusks, and shellfish are the main ingredients used in the region’s traditional dishes. As a result, Sesimbra is home to fantastic fish and seafood restaurants. Then it’s just a matter of enjoying the meal!
