Historic Sybil Douglas Georgian Classic House c. 1790 is across from the Hannibal French house, on the east side of Main Street. Built during the 1790s. Originally built by whaling family Benjamin Hunting. The house has fine details; the doorway and portico, the central peak with semicircular window, and ornate cornice. Georgian house is noteworthy for its fine detail. Large House, 3,904 sq. ft w/4 unique BR, Blackout blinds. 3.5 bathrooms, 3 TV rooms, Multiple spaces can be used for Living/office & sleeping rooms, large dining room with elegant baby grand Piano, Outside private large heated pool, beautiful lush Garden, Deck w/ sitting area, sitting area table/chairs, lounge chairs w/ umbrella. Another amazing week

This was our second (and we very much hope not last) stay at Shannah’s beautiful house. Everyone had a wonderful time and our friends loved the house as well. The location could not be better, we walked to dinner every evening. We also took beautiful morning walks on the beach and there was a lot of hanging out at the pool as well. An all around perfect holiday- see you next year!

Gorgeous Historic Village Home

Beautiful and impeccably restored historic house steps from village! On the very high end of historic village homes. We were initially a little surprised by the art, but fully embraced the experience. The house has everything you would want or need and is perfect for a couples getaway. And the yard and pool are spectacular (and unexpected) for the super convenient location. Night swims are a must. Very highly recommend!

Great location!

The house has a lot of charm and character! We loved that it’s just a short walk to the restaurants and shops of Sag Harbor! The outdoor space was ideal for dining al fresco and relaxing by the pool. Highly recommend!

Beautiful house so close to town

My family and I had a lovely time in Sag Harbor last week. The house was so spacious we had 2 couples come to stay part of the time and we never felt cramped. It is tastefully decorated with amazing photographs and has everything you need for a brilliant holiday. The owner met us on arrival and responded quickly to all our questions. If the house is available we will certainly be coming back next year! Thank you!!

A gloriously unique and historical property with enviable proximity to the centre of town

The BS house is an atmospheric home of great character and charm. Its generous Georgian proportions and architectural fineness combine with 21st Century elegance and amenity. The sophisticated interior has an aura of glamour. The rooms are light , serene and spacious, and very tastefully furnished. There are sumptuously comfortable beds, well-appointed bathrooms and an ideally private sun deck and pool. High impact images from Bert Stern's oeuvre give an added dimension of aesthetic pleasure. Sag Harbour's restaurants, shops and places of interest are a mere stroll away, adding to the ease and delight of a stay in this exceptional home. Shannah could not have been more welcoming or accommodating of us.

What makes this property unique

SYBIL DOUGLAS HOUSE - Originally built by ship-owner Benjamin Huntting I on the site of the Whaling Museum, the structure, a classic five-bay Georgian, was sold to Capt. Douglas and moved in 1838 to the opposite side at 189 Main St, when Benjamin Huntting II decided he wanted a more splendid home. Note the handsome front door with its elliptical fanlight and elaborately mullioned side windows, and the ornately carved cornice.
