About this property

Cosy Cottage in East Devon - parking onsite. Beaches and countryside close by.

On the edge of the village Ashes Farm Cottage dates back to the 18th century and forms part of the grade 2 listed building of Ashes Farm which now includes a second holiday rental The Byre, Vrbo reference 11293980. Sadly we do not accept pets in the cottage and we can only accommodate a maximum of 2 under 18 year olds (children) with an one or 2 adults booking. The accommodation offers you 2 large bedrooms on the 1st floor with a cosy lounge diner and brand new kitchen and shower room on the ground floor. Providing onsite parking the cottage also offers you great outdoor space with a garden, shared between the 2 properties, for relaxing and the use of the acre paddock for those with more energy. The cottage affords you a home from home feel for long or short stays, minimum of 2 nights.
Close to the iconic Dorset seaside town of Lyme Regis, about 15 minutes to the Cobb, we are also only 20 minutes drive to other lovely beaches along the East Devon coast including, Beer, Seaton Sidmouth and Branscombe to name just 4. Seaton has a fabulous Tramway taking you along the river Axe to Colyton via Colyford.
The town of Axminster is 2 minutes in the car from the cottage with 2 supermarkets - Thursday is market day and there is a small range of independent shops here too. Axminster also has a wonderful Waffle House and other restaurants and pubs with a number of take-away restaurants from Curry to Burgers, Chinese to pizza. But don’t expect big name brands these are independent eateries who offer a warm welcome as well as great food.
The train station at Axminster gives you the flexibility to travel into Exeter without worrying about parking or navigating the city centre.
The famous River Cottage HQ is only 15 minutes or so by car with a new onsite eatery.
We have a cricket pitch and play park across the road from us which will entertain the little ones.
We have a pub in the village, The New Inn which is a short stroll away and is open lunchtimes and evenings for food and bar service, refer to kitchen opening time’s advertised, as this varies depending on the time of the year.
Across the A35, about a 3 minute walk, is Millers Farm shop where they do a great breakfast, lunch or just some delicious cake! Stock up on luxury essentials like chocolate or local veg, meat, fish and creamy milk. You will also find a range of plants for sale and a fresh fish shop, there is a well stocked wine section in the farm shop stocking local wines from Dalwood vineyards, Castlewood and Lyme Bay wines as well as the usual suspects including beer or cider.
We have a shop just around the corner for bits and bobs you may have forgotten and there is a Greggs and Subway here too.
We have 2 churches in the village - don’t worry the bells at The Parish church don’t usually start until after 10am on Sundays.
The market town of Honiton is 15 to 20 minutes away in the car and the M5 and Exeter is around 30 minutes drive.
Slightly further afield you will find the wilds of Dartmoor and Exmoor or if you prefer some retail therapy there is always Exeter and Taunton. Lots to do in Devon for all ages from canoeing along the canal at Exeter to visiting the Zoo at Paignton, Crealy theme park and World of country life for the younger generation are always a hit - The Donkey Sanctuary at Sidmouth is free to all so pop along to meet the long-eared residents!
We are waiting to give you a warm welcome and are really proud of our little cottage - feedback has been amazing from our guests please check the online reviews. Our cleanliness standards are so important to us, previous guests have commented that this is the cleanest holiday rental they have ever stayed in! Any questions do get in touch with me. We look forward to seeing you soon.

Fantastic
The cottage was wonderful. The hosts were friendly and engaging. It was nice sitting in the back yard looking out at the English countryside. The cottage itself was perfect for us and location was great. Thanks to Sarah and Neil for making this part of our trip memorable.

I have lived in East Devon for 37 years and my husband is a local having been born in nearby Seaton. We are totally committed to ensuring our guests enjoy their privacy and have a relaxing holiday. Neil is a general builder and I have the pleasure of working for a local equine charity do we are still keeping busy. With family and friends living locally our lives pretty hectic. We have only been at Ashes Farm since November 2021 and have a lot of work ahead of us to renovate the grade 2 listed farmhouse. However the cottage is ready and waiting to welcome guests. Neil worked hard over the winter to ensure Ashes farm cottage was refurbished to his usual high standards.
