About this property

Barakat Lakes Escape

Summary:
Barakat is a spacious modern home full of its own distinct charm located in Ambleside within the heart of the Lake District. The nearby area boasts a rich history and a bustling day to day life with activities both on and off the nearby Lake Windermere, the ideal location for those looking to dive head first in to an adventure while exploring all that is on offer before retreating to the cosy home to take advantage of the creature comforts Barakat boasts.

The Space:
Barakat is a beautiful home, overlooking Lake Windermere. It is recently renovated and packed with eco-credentials and modern technology. It is located in an ideal spot to explore Ambleside, Windermere and the wider Lake District, although you might find it hard to tear yourselves away from the vistas on your very own doorstep. Nestled into a rugged slate outcrop, Barakat has outstanding views in every direction. What could be better than sitting on the slate terrace with a glass of wine, watching as the cattle wander down to the banks of the River Brathay to drink? Or watching the sun set over the magnificent Lakeland fells? Stroll down to the Wateredge Inn for lunch, before a wander around the Roman Fort ‘Galava’ directly opposite Barakat.

The house sleeps six people comfortably with three en-suite bedrooms, one of which is on the ground floor; making it an ideal choice for families with several generations. It is a peaceful location making it not suitable for party bookings. There is a light, well equipped kitchen dining area; sumptuous sitting room, & plenty of off-road parking. Barakat is a great choice for an unforgettable break in the beautiful Lake District.

Guest Access:
Parking can be found on the driveway.
EV Charging is available on the driveway for one vehicle.

The Neighborhood:
The village of Ambleside is situated in the heart of the Lake District surrounded by plentiful natural beauty and full of Cumbrian charm and rich history. History can be found on Barakat's own doorstep with a 2nd century Roman Fort ruin that can be found less than a two-minute wander away! Towards the centre of the village Stock Ghyll Force can be found, a spectacular 70-foot waterfall or perhaps more familiarly there is the National Trust owned 17th Century Bridge House over Stock Ghyll beck is one of the most recognisable and photographed scenes in Lakeland! While Ambleside remains distinctly popular with walkers, climbers and those looking to get out and about on the lake, there is no shortage of shops, cafes restaurants and a local cinema.

Getting Around:
Barakat is a great location to travel to a number of local attractions and locations when out-and-about by car. The local bus routes run regularly from Ambleside and are found a short stroll from the house should you wish to explore other well-known locations such as Keswick, Ambleside, Bowness and Windermere to name a few. Ambleside proper can also easily be accessed on foot with the heart of the village just a leisurely 15-minute stroll away.

Birthday with friends
The house was excellent. The skies holiday host left a lot to be desired ! There were things broken in the property. He didn’t fix them and wanted to charge 20 pounds for an hour later check out - ! Which quite frankly when you are paying a lot for a holiday home is outrageous - especially as we knew there was no one else booked into the house. Such a shame because the house was amazing and we had a lovely time but that customer service would have made all the difference if it had been good.

Amazing lakes retreat
Genuinely lovely 3 en-suite bedroom property in a location that could not be better for widespread and convenient access to the large portions of the Lake District. Amenities of Ambleside a 10 minute stroll away and a park directly across the road. Well appointed modern kitchen a joy to use with proper appliances and Sage coffee machine. Extremely comfortable lounge and plenty of room for all. Accommodation quality cannot be overstated here it is a fabulous property. The slight hiccup of our week was that the property management company seemed unable to resolve a small issue we identified early in the week regarding a delivery to the post box and we left at the end of the week with this still outstanding despite several attempts from us to reach out. Hopefully an aberration but disappointing nonetheless. Make sure you reserve a table at the Old Stamp House or it’s sister Kysty (both Ambleside) ahead of your stay, they are absolutely incredible. Buy a pie from Rattle Ghyll, stock up on walking gear at the Mountain Factor and get a Cumberland sausage from Garside butchers. Amazing town. Do not hesitate to book this incredible house for your week, I can’t think there would be anywhere that even comes close!
