Great stay - excellent accommodation - absolutely as described. We loved this location, great facilities, enjoyed the games room and tennis court and the fact that there was loads of crockery. This was a great place to stay, definitely on our list for ‘we may well return’ and more than happy to recommend. Also a great location - and fantastic views.

Thank you for taking your time time to write a lovely review.
I will look forward to welcoming you back.
It was a lovely stay at this property. It is on a working Dairy farm and the grandchildren loved seeing the cows each morning. There was a wonderful securely fenced grass garden where our dog and kids could play safely. The games room adjacent was fun of an evening. Location wise there is much in the surrouning areas within easy reach to explore. The host was lovely and accomodating on our various requests.

Very clean and well equipped cottage located on a working dairy farm. Really enjoyed the property and the location. Owners were very friendly and easy to work with.
We spent a lovely week at this property close to Exeter, the perfect base from which to attend our Exeter university graduation celebrations and explore the area. The hosts were welcoming and the property was fitted out to a very high standard. We would definitely stay again.

I will look forward to welcoming you another time.
Despite a mixture of sunshine and showers we were able to use the Wheel House as a very comfortable base for our party of 4 adults and a dog. There were enough interesting places north, east, south and west to give variety although care was needed to safely navigate the many narrow lanes especially since many of them were being repaired!

Thank you for making the time to leave a comment, very pleased you found lots of interesting places to visit.
The roads can be a little narrow in places although they are very quiet, all the local repair jobs on the roads are all completed now.
Great place & facilities (tennis court & games barn) for a mix of family and friends to stay for a week, and super friendly and helpful hosts. Beautiful valley and easy drive to Beer and other beaches. Good to be on a proper working farm. Very comfortable rooms and bests and communal living spaces. Many thanks to Judith and Julian.

Thank you for taking the time to write such a beautiful review! you will be very welcome to come another time.
Very well equipped, bedding & towels included as well as tea coffee sugar. Spacious and quiet. Only downside was travelling the single track roads getting to & from in a large car. Otherwise totally worth the cost. Thank you
Lovely spacious accommodation for 6 adults. Stunning views of the Devon hills and great outside space. The dog loved watching the cows going in & out for milking. We played tennis & table tennis. Lovely walks near by.
Judith was really helpful and we can’t fault anything. We will back again next year.

Look forward to seeing you next time.
The Wheel house is the largest of 3 properties at this location. It’s stunning and Judith, the host, is very helpful. The property is one of the best equipped self catering properties we’ve stayed in. Included was: tea/coffee/sugar, washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, washing machine tablets, cloths, tea towels, bedding, towels, logs for the burner and a really well equipped kitchen. Beds were so comfy. The setting is stunning and we were even lucky enough to wake to a new calf in the field behind us one morning.
Super location to get out and visit lots of areas. We hope to return.
Thank you for having us.

East Devon peace and quiet, beautiful accommodation
Judith made us feel very welcome, great communication prior to arrival. Spotless House, generous space for family of 4, certainly enough room for up to 6/ 8. Brilliant showers/ bathrooms and underfloor heating throughout enabled walking boots to dry off overnight! Enclosed large lawned garden an unexpected bonus for dog, though we kept her inside when cows passed by for milking twice a day. Absolute peace with lush wide valley views, big starry skies at night. Tennis court and games room were the cheery on the cake.

Communication with Judith before we arrived was excellent. As was it on our arrival
The accommodation was excellent, great for the dog, clean spacious and look for the hidden secret space - we never found it until the last day - great bit of history associated with it.
If i wished for anything else it would have been to buy some local organic milk and organic duck eggs or Honey as im sure i would have brought some back up to Scotland with me.
I would certainly go back without a doubt.
5 star all round Judith you certainly have a wonderful place and thanks for the opportunity to share it with my family

Lovely & big quiet cottage in the rolling green hills of Devon
We really enjoyed our stay here. Two couples, plus an older relative, all on one floor with lots of parking.
Gorgeous hills and views, and a massive outdoor green area that is securely fenced so no escapes for our dog. The kitchen is extremely well equipped; from sieves to whisks to some non digital scales and several frying pans as well as ordinary pans, plus knifes, corkscrew, grater, peeler..... microwave and a fridge and freezer.
There is garden furniture too, one big table and chairs for all six people - then the end room... (the 3 rooms are in a row, a twin, followed in a row by two doubles) ..has a door that opens onto the green area where this is a little table where you can read/admire the view/have your morning coffee. Having 3 bathrooms is really handy too.
We stored two bikes in a barn which was very helpful . We really recommend this place which is on a dairy farm you get a glimpse of the rhythm of farm life.
Also lovely is Seaton Wetlands for wading birds, twitchers were going mad over osprey sightings. Colyton is a really pretty village nearby, with Amy's Filling Station Cafe a bit of a must, Riverside Cafe in Musbury near Axminster, and Tide cafe in Seaton, right by the sea, is nice too.

Glorious long weekend in stunning Devonshire countryside
We found the farm easily but then slightly to work out how to check in as our phone reception was non-existent so we couldn't access our confirmation for instructions. Thankfully our host, Judith, saw us and came out to help!
The Wheel House was far bigger than anticipated, but coupled with the huge shared garden, it was the perfect destination for 3 friends and a dog to relax, soaking up the incredible views and slowing down for a few days. The 2 other cottages on site were also occupied: the adjoining property also directly accessed the garden from their cottage, whilst the third had access via a gate, but there was plenty of space for everyone to enjoy the garden without crowding one another.
The 3 bedrooms and bathrooms were ideal as it meant we didn't have to queue for showers etc., although the underfloor heating in the family bathroom didn't seem to turn off, so it got a bit warm in there at times. The kitchen had all the crockery, utensils, pots etc. we needed to cook 3 meals from scratch, though there weren't many of the basics (e.g., no cooking oil, coffee, tin foil etc.). There are various supermarkets within a ~15 min drive so it was easy to remedy this. There is plenty of seating both indoors and out, so it would be ideal for a gathering, and the tennis court and games room would provide plenty of entertainment for the young (at heart) guests!
We visited the Donkey Sanctuary at Sidmouth & took the Colyton/Seaton Tramway, with a trip to Lyme Regis. Fantastic!
It was lovely accommodation. The property had everything we needed. It has amazing views across the valley.
This is the first time we stayed here, but wouldn’t hesitate to return. Some other guests in the neighbouring property had been returning for the past 12 years!
There are some lovely walks, and the countryside is beautiful. We visited Lyme Regis, Beer and Seaton which are all a short drive.
If you don’t want to go anywhere, the tennis court and games room is a great addition.
Judith and Jeremy were very good hosts.

This property is more than five star. It has ALL the comforts of home. The hosts were amazing and the tour of the dairy was great. The outside garden and patio were great for get togethers.
Living in the USA I felt the warmth of the British hospitality from the minute we entered the property.
We had a lovely mini break here. Spacious and comfortable with glorious views across the countryside. Ideal for young children. Highly recommended.

About the host
Hosted by Judith Hurford
Julian, myself and our family live here at Farwood Barton, Julian was born here, and I moved here when we got married. Julian runs the dairy herd and helps out with the holiday cottages. I run the holiday cottages and do the farm accounts. We live here with 190 dairy cows, calves in the Autumn, 2 cats Spoldge and Tinkerbell, a working dog called Jed who love catching the ball with the visitors!
Why they chose this property
Farwood Barton is a working grazing, dairy farm. The farm has been in the family for 3 generations, the original farm buildings in the Victorian Court Yard had got out of date for modern farming practices, they were crying out to be converted in to holiday lets. We converted them in 2009, we now enjoy having visitors staying with us sharing our beautiful location.
We as a family love living here in the countryside, we enjoy everything the countryside has to offer us, our livelihood, the quietness, our own space, the views, we still enjoy waking up every morning looking out to the wonderful view over the Coly Valley and beyond, summer or winter.
What makes this property unique
Farwood Barton gives you high quality, modern, accommodation, hidden from the hustle and bustle of life, whilst being close to the Jurassic Coast beaches and road links into the South West:- A30, A303, A35, A3035 and M5.
We want everyone to have a truly relaxing stay, and to leave feeling refreshed after a memorable time here at Farwood Barton.
