Town: A tiny, delightful, truly rural village with a lovely old church and a village pub, Alwinton sits in the Upper Coquet Valley, between the grassy Cheviots and the more rugged Harbottle Hills in the midst of the National Park. A great base for walkers and cyclers, the Pennine Way is a few miles, and the Pennine Cycle route a couple of miles south. This is a good location for exploring Northumberland with Hadrian's Wall and the magnificent Heritage Coastline within reach. Many of the area’s historic houses and castles are within easy driving distance – Wallington Hall, Cragside, Alnwick, Bamburgh, and the Holy Island of Lindisfarne. Fabulous local produce is available in Rothbury, from Craster kippers to hill-reared beef and lamb, Northumbrian cheeses and preserves. A fabulous base for enjoying all the area has to offer.
