Region: The Home Counties comprise the counties that surround London and include Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Middlesex. Although mostly built up, they include some fabulous scenery and attractions which are well worth a visit.
Town: Old Windsor, the largest village in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, was the home of Edward the Confessor and the oldest Saxon town in Berkshire, located next to the River Thames. The majority of Windsor Great Park, including The Savill Garden, Virginia Water, The Valley Gardens, The Long Walk, and The Deer Park, is contained within its limits. There are several excellent pubs in the area that serve delicious food, and the Windsor Farm Shop, located on the outskirts of the hamlet, has a variety of goods from the Royal Farms and small, local specialty vendors. Three miles from nearby Windsor, home to a castle and the British Royal Family, are the attractions of LEGOLAND, Thorpe Park, and Ascot Racecourse.
