Authentic thatched cottage in the heart of the Golden Vale.
Suir Valley Cottage lies in the heart of the south Tipperary countryside, an oasis of peace caught between ancient mountains and rolling fields. Some 200 years ago someone hoisted oaks beams onto cob walls and thatched them with straw, and since then the hearth of the cottage has warmed the hands of many generations. Located on a family run dairy farm, the cottage is safely contained in its own world within high walls and old farm sheds and is a 5 minute drive to our local village of Newcastle. The space Completely renovated over the past 12 months, Suir Valley Cottage is situated in its own private yard ,adjacent to the farmyard but securely separated from it. The cottage itself with the kitchen and utility areas dating from the early 1800's comprises of a large family kitchen with a generous table (seats 8 people) with a solid fuel range, as well as an electric cooker and under counter fridge. The utility room is equipped with a washing machine, dryer and full size fridge freezer. There is also ample room here for storing raingear and boots, and a bookcase full of varied reading material for both young and old. The "parlour" (sitting room)is the ultimate in comfort with a leather suite in front of a solid fuel stove and a 32" smart TV. A starter basket of logs is supplied for your use. The house is also heated by oil central heating. All three bedrooms are located directly off the parlour. The master suite boasts a traditional iron double bed with lockers and a wardrobe. The ensuite bathroom has a pumped shower. The main bathroom has an electric shower. The second bedroom is also a double room with lockers and an original teak wardrobe. Charming spotless cottage with great modern updates ie well equipped kitchen, washer/dryer, plenty of hot water for showers. Hosts are top notch providing info about the area, quick to respond to messages and had a fire going upon our arrival with fresh eggs, biscuits and butter for the first morning breakfast:) Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend.
What a wonderful place to stay. Tomas and Queenie the dog greeted us upon our arrival. Moira, Tomas’ wife left us homemade scones and there were fresh eggs on the table. It was a super welcoming home to stay in. Thank you for making our first 3 days in Ireland memorable.
Absolutely lovely cottage; very well appointed. The beds were very comfortable, and everything worked well. Appreciated the eggs and apple juice waiting for us; made breakfast very easy. Being greeted every morning by Queenie the farm dog was an extra treat. The whole family enjoyed playing catch with her. We would definitely book again and would recommend the cottage as a great place to stay.
