About this property
Cosy but spacious cottage in a beautiful thermal village in the Pyrénées.
Molitg-les-bains is a beautiful thermal village in the mountains with it's own thermal hotel. It's in the heart of Catalan country so a mixture of French & Spanish culture.
The landscape is breathtaking with walks right outside your front door. Whether you are in Molitg for "The Cure" at the hotel or for its amazing scenery & nearby places of interest. My house is perfect.
The cottage is spacious and a real home from home. As you walk in you have the traditional cottage feel and you will see that the original bread oven has been retained. Here you have a kitchen/dining which leads to a twin bedroom and ensuite bathroom (with washing machine).
Take the stairs to the 2nd floor and you will enter the lounge/diner with a cosy woodburner. The dining area has views over the village square where village events take place. If you are lucky you could coincide your trip with one of these events and have an evening of mussels or paella with the locals and a little bit of music. The lounge leads to double bedroom and a bathroom. There is plenty of information and guide books in the lounge to hep you decide how you would like to spend your holiday.
Wait for it there is still another floor. The top floor is very spacious and a perfect area to relax, spend quality time with each other or even do a bit of yoga. It's what I call my chill space. Here there is another double bed and the room can be separated with a curtain is you have an overspill of guests or perhaps your kids like mine don't want to share a room! There is also a TV with access to various channels and a number of games to play. This floor leads onto a very private south facing terrace, with bbq and table and chairs and beautiful views of the surrounding mountains.
Molitg has a small tourist information centre just opposite and being a thermal village has a couple of water fountains where you are able to fill up your water bottles and carafes. So take advantage of the spring water, it's beautiful. In fact there is a fountain just the opposite the house so very handy!
You don't need to go far for a walk, there are many paths from the village leading directly onto the mountains. The village also has a really cute park with a play area for the children, crazy/putting golf (you are able to hire the golf clubs for free at the tourist information centre), a basketball/tennis court and an outdoor gym complete with mountain views. In fact it's one of my favourite places in the village.
There are a million things to do in the Pyrénées-Orientales and I would suggest that you take a peek of the tourist information site https://www.tourisme-pyreneesorientales.com/
We are only about an hour away from the coast so it's easy to have beachdays and there are a fair few beaches to choose from, large sandy, small coves which are great for snorkelling all the way along to the Spanish border.
In the mountains you obviously have the walks but you also have various activities if you feel active like canyoning, via ferrata, accrobranche, mountain biking and if you are a cyclist plenty of cycle routes to follow Tour de France style. As well as the stuning hikes, there are waterfalls where you can bath, natural thermal springs to bath, you can choose from paid ones or wild springs which are my favourite. There are many historical places to visit, and beautiful villages. We are just 15 mins drive from Eus one of the prettiest villages in France and 20 mins from the historical village of Villefranche-de-Conflent.
The village itself is also home to the stunning Le Grand Hotel offering thermal and beauty treatments if you would like to pamper yourself.
Perpignan is only 45 mins and if you would like a day trip to Barcelona, the Spanish border is not far. It's a 2hr 45min drive to Barcelona or you could catch a train from Perpignon. There are so many things to explore and do here, the list goes on & on.......

About the host
Hosted by Wendy
Hi, I'm Wendy from Bristol in England. It has always been my dream to live in France so in 2023 took the plunge to buy a house in France. Baby steps first so bought a holiday home to test the waters and spend time in France to improve my French.
This is the 1st time that I've hosted although I've stayed in lots of properties as a guest so I think I have a good idea of what a traveler needs to make their stay a real home from home. I would welcome any feedback or any improvements that you think I could make to
my house and I hope you like it as much as I do.

Why they chose this property
I love mountains but I also like the coast and coastal walks so Molitg-les-Bains has both as it is right in the mountains and only an hour from the coast. I find the landscape of the Pyrénées breathtaking and after viewing a few villages I fell completely head over heals with Molitg. The drive up to the village is amazing especially as you enter the lower part of Molitg with the view of the Grand Hotel nestled in the rocks.
As soon as I set foot in the village, I felt at home. It was tranquil but had a sense of community at the same time. The village is well kept and a real jewel in the mountains. There is a lot to do in the area, either take a hike in the mountains, many trails from the village, visit historic and beautiful villages, bath in natural thermal waters, lakes or waterfalls, take time out on the many beaches on the coast from Perpignan to Spain, visit the local markets. If you're looking for action, lots of mountain activities such as canyoning, via ferrata, mountain biking or cycling tour de France style or extremely long hikes.
If you want to just take it easy, well just take a wander round the many villages or just sit on my sunny roof terrace and listen to the birds chattering away.
It's very easy to get lost in nature.

What makes this property unique
The house is in a beautiful well kept village. The villagers are very friendly, you won't pass anyway without saying Bonjour.
The house itself is very spacious and has an amazing 3rd floor where the sun streams in and together with the roof terrace offers a very private and welcoming space.
The 1st and 2nd floor offers the cosy charm of a cottage but does not feel small.
