Avoid!
First the positive: the property was largely as advertised, although the hot tub was green and "closed for the season".
The neighborhood seemed sketchy to us, and the host made sure we knew it was very important to keep the gate locked at all times.
Now the terrible: No communication about check in - I messaged twice through the VRBO app and no reply. Finally I called - Eduardo didn't seem to know we were coming but confirmed the property was available. When we showed up, he asked us what rate we were "quoted" - I told him we had prepaid through VRBO but he insisted he had not been paid. He seemed to accept that he needed to sort it out with VRBO, so we went to Puerto Varas for the day, intending to come back later to sleep. We ended up getting a hotel in Puerto Varas, just because we preferred the town to Puerto Montt. We let Eduardo know our decision and dropped off his keys 2 days later. He then started messaging us saying he still hadn't been paid and that we needed to help him. We reiterated that we had paid VRBO. He then switched to threatening us with legal action if we didn't pay him.
I honestly think he is more confused than malicious, but nobody needs that on their vacation. There are other places to stay.
