About this property

Wabisabi Townhouse en Hoces del Río Riaza

Located in the unique setting of the Hoces del Río Riaza Natural Park, among the vineyards of the Ribera del Duero and offering daily views of birds of prey, Wabisabi Townhouse is a traditional Castilian-Leonese village house built in the early 20th century from stone and natural wood. It was completely renovated in 2019 with meticulous attention to every detail, enhancing its rustic charm of yesteryear while providing modern comforts to offer guests a truly unforgettable rural experience. A unique and special setting, as the little village is immensely fortunate to be located within the Hoces del Río Riaza Natural Park, inaugurated by King Juan Carlos and naturalist Félix Rodríguez de la Fuente in 1975. The park is home to the most important raptor sanctuary in Europe—and perhaps the world. More than 600 pairs of griffon vultures live in the park and are cared for daily by WWF and Adena. The caretakers feed them daily with carcasses and monitor the breeding season to ensure the peace and quiet these animals need. It is one of the few natural parks where visitors are fortunate enough to see griffon vultures relatively up close and appreciate the enormous wingspan they achieve when they spread their wings. In addition, more than 10 pairs of Egyptian vultures—which are migratory birds—come every year from Africa to rest on the cliffs. Eagles, falcons, and other endangered species can also be spotted, and at the bottom of the gorges lies a significant riparian forest that serves as a refuge for a large community of amphibians and small mammals. And they all visit us in town from time to time!

With hiking and biking trails for all skill levels, Romanesque ruins and sites from other eras, the Riaza River teeming with trout and barbel, and a rich botanical landscape featuring elms, poplars, junipers, holm oaks, and other centuries-old trees, the Hoces del Riaza Natural Park is a must-see (perhaps on multiple occasions to truly savour everything it has to offer). It’s even great for fishing; however, we strongly recommend visiting the Park Office behind our house—before reaching the river—so they can guide you on the different trails, fishing regulations and permits, and the best ways to enjoy the park.
