Points of Interest:-

Our nearest village is Prayssas, it is considered a ‘French village de carectére’ and is 7km away, it boasts a number of amenities including a boulangerie, bank, bar, pharmacy and shop. A farmers market is held every Sunday morning where you can buy seasonal fruit, vegetables and cheese. During the summer months a night market / marché nocturne gourmand is held on a Wednesday evening, which is great fun.

The picturesque city of Agen is 17 km away, here you will find a wide variety of shops, restaurants, cafes and bars as well as a main line train station. Trains to destinations such as Bordeaux, Paris and Toulouse run frequently. The main weekly market days are Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.

The ancient medieval town of Pujols a ‘Plus Beaux Villages de France’ is 26 km away. Perched on a limestone bluff at an altitude of over 180 m overlooking the Lot and Mail valleys. The centre is built around a market square, the pedestrian streets are lined with half timber houses. Inside the ramparts you can see the remains of the castle tower. There is a weekly Sunday market, selling a variety of fresh produce.

There are a number of excellent restaurants within a 30 km radius ranging from rustic to Michelin star. Personal favourites include:-

Auberge Le Prieuré (Michelin *) - Moirax 25 km
Café des Marronniers - Vianne - 21 km
Le Moulin des Saveurs - Nèrac - 20 km
Restaurant L'Herboriste - Castelmoron sur lot- 22 km

For wine enthusiasts the following wine regions are within close proximity:-
Buzet - 23 km
Côtes du Marmandais - 27 km
Saint Émilion - 116 km
Pomerol - 122 km

From the beginning of July to the end of August there are a number of night markets / marché nocturne gourmand held locally. The following are especially very good:-

Monday Saint Sardos - this picturesque hamlet is where the 100 years war begun
Wednesday Prayssas - very friendly atmosphere, great food and music
Friday Montpezat - a stunning setting with incredible views of the surrounding area, only four are held from late July to mid August
Saturday Saint Laurent - a wide variety of food and different bands play each week

The surrounding countryside is great for cyclists of various fitness levels, while there are no cols there are a number of climbs that are challenging. Similarly, there are a number of beautiful walks and hiking trails on our doorstep too.

If you are following the 2024 Tour de France our home is ideally situated to follow two of the flat stages of the Tour - Aurillac to Villeneuve-sur-Lot 11/07/2024 and Agen to Pau on 12/07/2024.

Relaxing , Tranquil and a little slice of modern heaven
The self contained flat is so big and spacious that the picture's do not reflect just how much space you have. We enjoyed the luxury of comfortable bed and bedding , fully equipped kitchen with the best of appliances as well as the modern art and décor - it was just amazing. The fine taste in art and furnishings was just WOW - I have never seen a home, or hotel or apartment like it ! I need an interior decorator like our host Tracey and Arch The bedroom has air con and shutter blinds for privacy, also the hosts closed all their shutters that looked onto the courtyard and pool which we had full use of and the SPACE outside -oh my goodness wow - no shortage of both sun spots and shade areas to sit and relax with , sun loungers a plenty and best of all the VIEWS are absolutely stunning, at night there was silence and no light pollution, revealing the stars. The pool looked inviting but was a little cold this time of year for us to have a dip. The hosts have the sweetest and most handsome Golden Retriever who was friendly and wanted to say hello to us when we were outside. The hosts were so welcoming, helpful and knowledgeable about the area and local points of interest especially the local winery's. Unfortunately we just missed the local fate ,however the hosts have all the dates for local village gatherings and fates which are community spirited with good food, music and wine . It is only 20 minutes drive to Agean where we caught the train to our next stop of Pairs .

About the host

Host profile image
Archie and I are originally from Edinburgh. We have a keen interest in architecture, art and design. Our retirement dream was to own a contemporary house in the south of France with a pool and a reasonable sized garden (big enough to keep us occupied but not so big that it becomes a full-time job). And, of course a dog, life would not be complete without Angus, our friendly and well behaved golden retriever. Life is good so why not share it with guests who are looking for quiet and peaceful vacation in a beautiful and tranquil setting.

Why they chose this property

We chose Tantouille because of the house. Fortunately, we discovered latterly that the Lot et Garonne, which is between the Dordogne and the Gers is incredibly beautiful, steeped in history and famed for being in an area considered the bread basket of France. There are a number of beautiful villages and bastides locally, while Bordeaux and Toulouse are only a 90 and 120 minutes drive away. If like us you enjoy cycling and walking there are a many routes to explore from our doorstep. Similarly, if you are a wine lover there are a number of regions to visit close by including Buzet, Cötes du Marmandais, Bergerac and Bordeaux.

What makes this property unique

Guests will have a private, bright and spacious self contained 80 sqm apartment. The interior is stylish, housing modern art and design-led furniture. Guests will have exclusive access to our heated pool, gym (times by mutual agreement to suit their fitness and training requirements) as well as three outdoor areas to enjoy stunning views and the summer sun. Our aim as hosts is to ensure to the best of our abilities that guests have a relaxing and memorable stay.
