Enjoy the best view in Carlsbad! Our open floor plan and generous living space is flooded with light and transitions through two sliding doors to an expansive private deck. Enjoy our beautiful lagoon views and the perfect 180 degree sunset over the Pacific Ocean.

We're 5 minutes from Carlsbad Village, where you'll find a perfect blend of hip and quaint beach town shops and dining. Or we're just 10 minutes from Legoland California and the Carlsbad Premium Outlets; 45 min to Sea World and San Diego!

*NOTE* Smoking and pets are prohibited on the property. Late check in available. Door code and Wi-Fi password supplied upon booking a reservation. Check in time is typically 3 PM, and checkout by 11 AM.

Front of House
The home is at the end of a quiet neighborhood street in Olde Carlsbad. There is ample space for 2 cars tandem parked on the left side of the driveway (not blocking garage), and enter through the gate on the left. Your Carlsbad Retreat residence is above the garage.

Large Back Deck
Enjoy the stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and Buena Vista Lagoon from the comfort of the private deck. We have matches for you to light the fire pit (provide your own wood) and enjoy the evening under twinkling deck lights and stars. Use the BBQ on the lower deck to grill up your favorite veggies or meats.

Kitchen
The spacious kitchen is fully-stocked with plates, glasses, cutlery, cookware, and kitchen appliances. Stroll through the local Carlsbad farmers market (located on State Street every Wednesday evening), and pick up a few items to cook up a delicious meal. Or stock up the pantry at any of the several nearby grocery stores.

Living Room
Sink into the comfortable couch and feel the coastal breeze coming through the huge double sliding doors and windows. The calm beach decor puts you in the mindset of an endless summer for your Carlsbad vacation.

Bedroom
Catch up on some extra ZZZ’s in the queen-size bed and queen blow up. A pack-n-play crib is available if you’re bringing a little cherub on your trip. The bedroom is massive and has closet space, hangars, and a dresser. Two additional people can sleep on an air mattress in the bedroom or in the family room.

Bathroom
Clean up after a day at the beach in the shower or oversized tub.

Beach Gear
It’s easy to enjoy a day at one of Carlsbad’s many beautiful public beaches with beach chairs, umbrella, and towels provided. Ready to take on the waves? Skip the hassle and lines at a rental shop, and rent a Wavestorm surfboard directly from us for $10/day.

Carlsbad offers everything you need for a fun getaway. We have it all: 7+ miles of sandy beach coastline, Carlsbad Premium Outlets and boutique shopping in Carlsbad Village, the flower fields, Legoland California, fine and casual dining, parks and hiking trails, and extremely easy access to the Coaster or I-5 to get to downtown San Diego. As the locals like to say “Life’s Rad in Carlsbad."

Enjoyable Getaway!

We spent a week in Carlsbad in a beginning of August 2019 and have a wonderful memories being there. The apartment is very specious and seperated from the main house. For a few days we didn't even know that the property owners family lived in the same house. As many reviewers pointed out, the place has a beautiful large bath tub which we enoyed after spending all day outdoors. Big bedroom was also a great plus allowing air to circulate better. We enjoyed the beautiful view of the ocean, lagoon and sunsets....just as described in VRBO. Close to freeways, stores and most important - incredible beaches, either north or south. In the last two days of our stay we met Kat and her 2 adorable children. She is very friendly, helpful and welcoming. We had such a good time apparently that we even lost track of time and forgot which day to check out. We hope to come back one day.

This is our second year staying at Olde Carlsbad. It’s not right on the beach, but we like the quiet location. We love the tub and the openness of the place. We were sad the DVD movie collection was gone this year. It was the perfect size for our small family of 3!

Comfy bed. Lots of space. Very private. A beautiful deck with a fire pit. Noise from the hwy, which is quite far off, was a surprise but I quickly got over it. I’d recommend the Penthouse to anyone who is looking for privacy and comfort.

My wife and I stayed here with our 5 year old and 2 year old. Huge bedroom that had a queen bed, plus queen air mattress plus pack and play with room left over. Very pleasant deck to unwind at the end of the day. Very comfortable. We particularly liked the access to beach toys and chairs (and we took FULL advantage of them...sorry for the sand) Would recommend and stay again. Only heads up I'd leave is that there is no cable and the wifi signal wasn't that strong. Ton of DVDs available however, something for everyone. Very clean, very pleasant.

We had a really great stay. The pictures don't do this place justice- it is so spacious and well kept. The bed is comfortable, everything is new and in great shape and there are tons of extras like a bluetooth speaker, tupperware, saran wrap, baggies, coffee, beach chairs/ umbrella, crib, booster seat etc. Kat and Derek were were great at communicating and made sure we had everything we needed. The huge windows made for great sunset views but also kept the place nice and cool with the breeze. We would absolutely stay here again!

Had a great stay in Carlsbad and would rent again! The 'retreat' was clean, convenient, and cozy (actually big) for my daughter and I. Stocked with necessary amenities, bathroom and bedroom are huge. Easy access to interstate, can go south to San Diego/ Coronado or head north to LA. We did both. Great place, great weather and would definitely rent again! Also, Carlsbad was lovely. Owners were very nice and easy to work with! Hopefully, we'll be back next June!

We loved staying in this Carlsbad retreat! There was lots of room for our small crew, the owners were friendly and welcoming. The balcony was nice, the weather was great, everything was clean and accommodating. There was1 queen bed and a large couch. We had fun watching some fun movies from their collection. The property is well maintained, and very convenient to I5 in a quiet residential area. It's about a mile and a half from the beach and the water is visible from the deck. I would give it 5 stars but I was thinking it was a little closer to the shore, but no problems at all with the property or the communication.

The only thing is I wish there was a small first aid kit available. Totally my fault and unrelated to my awesome experience... But I cut my foot on accident and was looking for a band aid. The bed and bath tub were my favorite part of the whole place. That bed is so comfortable and a good place to sleep makes your whole vacation. I really appreciate how clean it was. Very satisfied with our stay.

Nice, clean and well equipped. Owners very friendly and accommodating. Would definitely stay here again. Only negative is the expressway noise. Probably wouldn’t ever enjoy the patio area outside, but overall a great VRBO!

The best part of the experience was the ease of communication. Kat answered all my questions in a very timely manner and made sure we had everything we needed upon arrival. The view from the deck outside the room was outstanding and had a small fire pit with lighting fixtures for night. Right off the freeway making travel easy, and close enough to the beaches and restaurants. Loved my stay and will be looking to book again next time I'm down in the area

Convenient location, helpful host, spacious rooms, but very noisy

The deck has a great view of the ocean and sunset but it is right above the freeway and when we arrived, the noise seemed overpowering. Though it bothered us less as the week went on, we weren't tempted to use the deck though it otherwise would have been perfect. The apartment hasn't been a VRBO for long so its furnishings are still evolving. We would have liked a coffee table in front of the couch and a night table in the bedroom. Also, there was no cable, which was fine with us, but the TV wasn't set up to receive local stations or PBS and we were unable to use Netflix on it. Were it not for the noise, we would book this place again without hesitation. Even with the noise, it was a good deal.

wonderful stay!

The place was spotless and very comfortable. Well located to get to Oceanside or Carlsbad very easily. Beautiful view and porch to wind down a day. Quiet! We were thrilled with our stay. Suite is very large and there are small amenities that were above and beyond. Fast wifi. Soft towels. Stuff to take to the beach. Great young couple hosting. would be back in a heart beat!
