This has been resolved. And won't ever happen again. We were (are) shocked that this happened. It represents our only genuinely bad review from 80 reviews across multiple platforms over a nine-year period. The end result is that the cleaners have been fired. They had failed to properly deal with the aftermath of particularly messy guests who'd checked out just before Amber's arrival (and are subject to an ongoing damages claim) - not an excuse but verifiably true and the fallout was very obviously real. The investigations Amber mentions were real; there was no run around. The whole thing caught us by surprise and part of the investigation involved getting an independent third party professional in for a detailed assessment of the situation. That couldn't be scheduled immediately but did happen as soon as possible. Whilst Amber's wording overstates the reality of the extent of the issues, things weren't to the standard they should have been. Everything has since been completely addressed by what is the new cleaning team that came via the independent assessment. We apologise unreservedly to Amber and have already messaged her and VRBO in days past about providing her with a 100% refund; something we believe has now been processed (but not confirmed at time of writing).

It was lovely to host you and your family. Regarding the observations about garden and kitchen equipment, we had a very quick turnaround between the family before you leaving and your arrival on the day you did which unfortunately meant we didn't have time to get someone in to do the gardening/weeding as we didn't want to be doing that during the previous guests' stay. In terms of kitchen equipment, a couple of things did indeed go 'walkabout' before your arrival (serving mats, for instance) - something that got identified before you left your review and that has been addressed. Having said that, out of respect for the neighbours. and to keep the house in excellent condition, the place is never intended as a base for entertaining large numbers of people and as such doesn't come with the large platters, serving dishes etc. used for big gatherings that guests may have in their own homes.
