Town: Langho is a small rural village in the Ribble Valley of Lancashire. The village is split into two halves of the old and new, new Langho developed when the construction of the railway took place in the mid-19th century, turning it into a minor but still thriving commercial centre. The new church of St Leonard was built in 1879 because that at Old Langho was considered to be too far away, however even the new church is now rather isolated since the A59 roundabout was built. The ancient part of the village is considered a real gem, steeped in history for visitors to explore, the old church of St Leonard was built from masonry taken from Whalley Abbey, which was demolished in 1537 on the orders of Henry VIII. There are pubs and eateries among a few small shops and a school in the village. The wider area however, boasts many points of interest to be discovered such as, Longridge Fell which lies at the southern end of the Forest of Bowland AONB, and whose summit rests above wild forestry, benefitting some wonderful vistas to the north and west, in particular towards Fair Snape Fell and the Trough of Bowland. Nearby Whalley provides excellent walking at Spring Wood and boasts a fabulous golf club, and the Dean Clough Resevoir offers more walking routes as well as cycling and mountain biking, with some fantastic landscapes to behold. Clitheroe is a great place to visit with plenty of shops and eateries to enjoy as well as taking a visit to Clitheroe Castle. Turton Tower is a distinctive English country home located in the small village of Turton, just 15 miles away, on the edge of the West Pennine Moors, portraying evidence of the Tudor and early Stuart periods. This wonderful area of the North West has much on offer, whether you feel like a leisurely stroll, a lively night out or delving deep in history, it has it all, engulfing a delightful village in which to base your holiday break.
