About this property
Le Chêne - Spacious stone house, with air conditioning - Sleeps 6.
Beautifully renovated early 1900s home, in a courtyard with 16th century stone cottages. Air conditioning in bedrooms and kitchen/diner. A peaceful rural setting with country walks and cycle paths. Enjoy the background bird song during the day. Go to bed with the sounds of the owls, or stay up and watch the twinkling night skies. Located 10 minutes from sandy beaches at the lake, shops and restaurants. Lots to do locally and an ideal base for exploring Brittany.
Chene has 3 bedrooms, large kitchen/diner. Private fenced garden. Free Wi-Fi internet access is included. Communal gardens: Shared with a 2 & 7 person gites - childrens' play area (sky-fort, swings).
Situated in the heart of the beautiful Breton countryside this charming, spacious property has been sympathetically renovated. It retains its period features but has been updated to include modern facilities including a large kitchen / diner.
Upstairs it has two large bedrooms; one with a private bathroom. There is a separate workspace with table, chair and lamp. On the top floor, in the attic, is a bedroom with king size bed. All bedrooms have blackout blind or light stop curtains for a long, peaceful night's sleep.
The living area has a welcoming log burning fire, TV in English, French, Dutch & German, and DVD player. It has large comfortable sofas. From the living room you enter the kitchen/ dining area, with its range cooker and large dining table. The kitchen is well equipped, including with a fridge-freezer, dishwasher, under cupboard lighting and microwave. There is also a utility and cloakroom.
The property opens out through the cloakroom room onto a large private patio, allowing you to dine al-fresco. The property has its own private fenced garden. Access out to the large communal gardens, the sports area and the children's play area ('Skyfort', swings, slide), along with access to the free car park.
Lac de Guerledan is approximately 10 minutes from the cottages. It is a 400 ha lake with a range of activities, from fishing, sailing , water skiing, pedalos, and of course swimming from its sandy beaches. It also has two tourist boats that provide guided tours of the lake. The lake is surrounded by woodland with many walking and mountain biking (ATB) trails.
We are a few minutes from the Tour de France "Guerledan" stage finish. The 15% hill leading up to it is often used by professional teams and keen amateur road cyclists for training. The route also features on the annual Tour de Bretagne. We are also only a few minutes from signed bike trails which are part of the European and French national cycle network.
In addition to fishing on and around Lac de Guerledan there are numerous smaller lakes and rivers within easy distance for fishermen to enjoy their sport.
In addition to the walking around the lake there are multiple walking trails near the cottages - whether it is a small walk from right outside the cottages (circular walks possible - ideal for runners and dog walking) or longer distance walking around the lake or on local moorland, there is plenty to do.
For those looking for gentler walks or cycling, the tow-path of the Nantes-Brest canal can be accessed around 15 minutes from the cottages, and it’s possible to cycle or walk through very pleasant surroundings. The paths are spectacular in the autumn as the trees that provided shelter from the summer sun exhibit amazing displays of colour.
For the lovers of French Cuisine, there is an incredible choice, ranging from local crepes and cider or traditional country fare in the local village restaurants, to exquisite a la carte meals for that special occasion at the prestigious restaurants by the lake or in the bigger towns. Our local town of Guerledan (Mur de Bretagne) 5km away, has restaurants to suit all budgets - from a Michelin starred restaurant to a simple but high quality pizzeria, and a creperie. We are less than hour away from the sea, so the the seafood that Brittany is famous for is readily available, both in the shops and in the restaurants, and is always beautifully fresh.
Many local restaurants specialise in seafood dishes, including a broad selection of fish dishes in their daily menu, and the famous Breton sardines or Moules frites can be found in almost any town in Brittany.
