About this property

Vintage Schoolhouse Loft with High Ceilings and Historic Charm!

Recently renovated schoolhouse with lots of vintage charm! You'll be staying in a former large (24 x 30 ft) classroom. Come stay in a one of a kind local landmark. All are welcome! Great for families, couples, or singles looking for a unique experience. Easily accessible from Interstate 81 or Route 54. Very close to Jim Thorpe and many outdoor activities such as skiing, hiking, swimming, hunting and golfing.

The space

The schoolhouse was built in the early 1900s. Grades 1 - 8 occupied the four classrooms, with two grades to each of the four classrooms. Many of the old architectural details remain, including the grand staircase, double door foyer entryway, and original millwork. The windows are over 90 inches tall, providing light to all the rooms throughout the day. This is a unique space -- don't miss your chance to experience such a wonderful rural retreat!

Guest access

Your bedroom has a TV with Apple TV & Hulu. I provide a coffee maker, gas stove, microwave, and plenty of plates, utensils, etc. There is also an outdoor deck for lounging.

The Setup

The Schoolhouse is two levels. The downstairs level is the guest area containing a single bedroom, the guest bathroom, and kitchen. The upstairs level is private. The guest room has one queen bed and two twin beds. The total area of the downstairs level is about 1,800 sq ft.

Also, I am happy to give directions/recommendations and point out areas or attractions of interest!

Other things to note

I have a cat who lives in the schoolhouse. She is very curious but usually prefers to keep her distance from guests. She has food, water and a litter box upstairs so all of her needs are taken care of!

Usually AT&T cell service works well here, but other carriers may be spotty.

Although there is no air conditioning in the Schoolhouse, the high ceilings help keep the house temperature relatively cool in the summer. There are also two ceiling fans in the guest room to help circulate cool air.

Amazing unique one of a kind place for a country get away. Highly recommend

I cant say enough good things about this place. It was so much better then a hotel stay in terms of experience. We stayed for a long weekend and spent time nearby at the state park with a lake just five minutes away and at Jim Thorpe where we could have spent a lot more time if we had it. We made some great meals in the well stocked kitchen and watched movies and slept in. The history of the place is fascinating and the renovation is well done. We were concerned that no AC would be a problem but it wasn't. We loved the fast internet and the stereo with echo dot for convenience filling the kitchen dining space with great music. Little conveniences like bandaids in the bathroom (not sharing why we needed them.) So much was thought out. The rooms are large and well decorated in a sort of modern/creative look. We met Maria and she was lovely and her art hanging around the place, id have loved to see more of it. She has visited every restaurant in about a half hour drive and gives a personal review of each one in her welcome book, which we found very helpful, and tried two places and both were great. We took Maria up on her offer and requested privacy which she accommodated us on. The grass needed to be mowed, but who cares we are on vacation in the country... Highly recommend this beautiful spot! Would be glad to come back some day.

A Gem

We loved our stay. First surprise was the hill into the village after being on the I-81. Loved it . It was like going into a completely new world. Second surprise was how charming the schoolhouse was. Pictures didn't do it justice. The big windows were awesome as my husband is legally blind and I Cross stitch. Day lighting is the best. Thank you Maria. We are sorry we didn't get the chance to meet you. Never did get the TV to work. Shows my tech abilities - None!
