Golfers can delight in many golf courses including several challenging links courses within the area. Equestrians can enjoy horse riding on the beach and up the fells. For rail enthusiasts, Ravenglass and Eskdale Steam Railway provides 7-miles of spectacular scenery, the line runs from Ravenglass to Dalegarth Station near Boot in the valley of Eskdale. Or travel back in time at Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway, jump aboard the train at Haverthwaite Station and enjoy views from your carriage up to Lakeside; the southern tip of Lake Windermere.
Situated by the Hodbarrow Lagoon & RSPB Nature reserve, this beautiful location is perfect for bird watchers and nature lovers alike. With its abundant wildlife and surrounding scrub and grassland it is home to songbirds, rare plants and natterjack toads whilst marsh and bee orchids add colour to the flower-rich grasslands. The 4-mile circular walk around the lake is dog friendly and pushchair-friendly and ideal for runners and cyclists alike.
The Lake District has many wonderful houses and castles to visit among them are Holker Hall; an Elizabethan House with a stunning garden, Muncaster Castle with its owl sanctuary, Levens Hall and its garden in its original 1694 design and stately topiary, Sizergh Castle and its fern and limestone garden, Beatrix Potter’s house at Hill Top and Dove Cottage in Grasmere which is home of the poet William Wordsworth.
