About this property
Traditional cottage in rural setting near coast
If you are looking for a place somewhere tranquil, in unspoiled setting but with easy access to amenities to retreat from the world and leave feeling calm and rested then our cottage is just exactly that!
A former local sawmill dating back to early 1800s it is now converted into two dwellings and nestles in a quiet hamlet surrounded by rolling fields and valleys.
The cottage was reimagined by using modern materials while retaining its original features to create a warm and welcoming space.
The downstairs area is currently split into 3 main spaces (sitting room, dining room and kitchen) but without any internal doors (apart from a feature barn door) to emphasise the open plan communal feel.
The large sitting room is perfect for relaxing with a cosy collection of sofas with myriads of cushions and congregating round a huge original fireplace which has been fitted with a powerful stove to keep you warm anytime of the year.
Barn door links the sitting room to the kitchen which is tucked away at the back of the house with openings at both ends for easy access from the sitting room and the dining room.
The kitchen has an L-shape run of handcrafted cabinets and is well equipped even for a professional chef to cook a feast with lots of high quality pots, pans , utensils, crockery and dinnerware to choose from and a SMEG dual range cooker is definitely a feature and a joy to use.
There is a vintage club leather chair in the corner of the kitchen next to the second stove to ensure the company for whoever is cooking.
The dining room downstairs is dominated by a whopping nearly 4 meter long dining table which is a perfect space to enjoy your meal or cards round.
The original redesigned staircase leads upstairs to 2 bedrooms, a bathroom and a laundry.
Both bedrooms are fitted with double beds with orthopaedic mattresses and come with the finest bed linen.
The bathroom interior is partially panelled with the recycled wood and an antique French peasants copper bath is nestling under the roof eaves.
We tried to create a sophisticated but yet relax feel throughout the cottage by using the expanse of whites on the walls, paired with pale oak shutters, natural linen curtains, jute rugs and calm blues downstairs which provided a perfect backdrop for interesting art and collectibles whilst we used reacher hues upstairs to complement the original deeply coloured floors.
