About this property
Stunning, modern villa, with pool, 15 minutes walk from Céret centre
Completed in 2012, this five-bedroom family villa was designed and built by an award-winning architect for his own family.
The house is located on the edge of Céret and offers sweeping views across the Vallespir to the north and Le Canigou to the west. Set in a peaceful area, it’s just a fifteen-minute walk to the shops, bars, and pavement cafés of Céret. Immediately above the private rear garden to the south, you step straight into the countryside. Take the path known as “le balcon de Céret”—it winds along the edge of the forest: westward to the waterfalls (a ten-minute walk) and eastward to the village of Maureillas (about one hour). The forest continues uninterrupted across the border into Spain—nothing in between.
The living area of the house is open-plan: a large kitchen with breakfast island, dining area, and lounge, the latter opening onto a terrace that runs alongside the swimming pool. The kitchen is well equipped, perfect for cooking in large groups.
Just outside the main living area, a large fig tree provides shade during the summer months, casting dappled light through the expansive glazed wall that runs the entire length of the room. This glazed wall rises directly from the edge of the pool, where water laps almost up to the glass. The light reflected from the pool dances across the ceiling, creating a calm, serene atmosphere. It’s a feeling reminiscent of Céret itself, where the canopies of plane trees filter the sunlight, creating an unforgettable sense of peace and tranquillity—an oasis of cool shelter from the dry heat of summer.
Above the open-plan living area are two bedrooms with a shared Jack-and-Jill-style shower room. Both bedrooms are air-conditioned. On the lower level, nearly at the same height as the living spaces, is the large master bedroom—almost two storeys high—with a dressing area leading to an en suite bathroom. The bedroom is air-conditioned. Below that are two further bedrooms (one double, one twin), each equipped with a fan, that share a shower room. These two rooms stay naturally cool in summer. With five bedrooms, the villa comfortably accommodates up to ten guests.
The pool, located on the southern side of the villa, stretches the full length of the house—ideal for keeping an eye on children from inside, while also offering privacy from the road. Measuring 12m by 3m and 1m deep, it was designed for swimming but has also proven perfect for volleyball and other pool games. There are terraces at both ends of the pool. The western terrace, accessed directly from the living area, features a dining table shaded by a pergola, a kitchenette, and an outdoor lounge area. Photos of this newly renovated outdoor space will be available soon. To the front and west side of the villa, there is a garden planted with fruit trees.

About the host
Hosted by Jessica Hewitt

Hello! We’re Jessica and Olivia, two sisters who grew up in this home after moving from the UK to France at a young age. We speak both French and English and are excited to welcome guests to our family home.
Jessica is an architect (following in our dad’s footsteps) and Olivia is a firefighter. We both love the outdoors, and when we’re not managing the villa, you’ll often find us hiking or enjoying the nearby beaches. As food enthusiasts, we can also recommend some excellent places to eat in the area.
Our aim is for our guests to feel completely at home and enjoy a relaxed, authentic experience—whether you're here to unwind by the pool, explore the mountains, or take in the artistic charm of Céret.
During your stay, we’ll be staying in the town centre of Céret, so we’re available if you need anything, but we respect your privacy.
We look forward to welcoming you to our family home and ensuring you have a memorable stay.

Why they chose this property
We grew up here as children, and it was an incredible place to spend our childhood—running freely through the hills, cycling to the river, and being part of a close-knit community. Céret has a unique atmosphere, blending French charm with strong Catalan roots, which you can feel in everything from the food to the festivals.
It’s a town steeped in artistic heritage—Picasso, Matisse and other greats were drawn to its light and rhythm of life, and that creative spirit is still alive today in the Museum of Modern Art and local galleries. From the doorstep, you can head out on scenic walks, or drive to beautiful beaches and mountain trails nearby.

What makes this property unique
What makes the villa special is its striking modern architecture and the way it opens up to the outdoors. It’s a light-filled, comfortable home designed for easy living, with spaces that flow naturally between inside and out. Our favourite feature is the long glazed wall along the south side that overlooks the pool—on warm days, it fills the house with dappled light and a sense of calm that’s hard to beat.
