About this property

Claire's Cottage, Hythe

Claire’s Cottage is an adorable, cosy cottage tucked away from the road in a small terrace of former workmen’s cottages built in the Victorian era. Now fully renovated but keeping its character and charm, the cottage is the perfect romantic break for couples, or the ideal quiet retreat for guests wanting to slow down and explore this lovely part of the Kent coastline. The ground floor has a compact and fully equipped kitchen and a cosy sitting room with a traditional fireplace and wood burner. Upstairs is the comfortable bedroom and shower room. The south facing garden is a real suntrap, to enjoy sunny summer days and warm evenings, and has a patio area to catch the early morning sun, and a bench under a wooden pergola at the end of the garden. Hythe is a great place for a holiday or short break. Full of history, the Royal Military Canal, built during Napoleon times, passes through the town and offers stunning canal walks and wildlife. Foodies will be spoilt for choice with the many seafood restaurants, and the popular Michelin star Hide and Fox restaurant is within walking distance (make sure to book in advance). Not to be missed is a trip on the Romney Hythe & Dymchurch miniature railway, great fun for all ages, which terminates at the Dungeness Nature Reserve and lighthouses. Further afield are the coastal towns of Sandgate and Folkestone, and the historic City of Canterbury.

A lovely cottage and garden . Lots of thoughtful extras like a sun hat, a cool bag and picnic rug. A very nice place to stay.

Lovely period cottage

We have stayed at Claire's Cottage for the last three years. Its a lovely period cottage, well equipped, tastefully decorated and very homely. It has a pretty cottage garden which is lovely to come back to after a day out.

Pretty cottage

This is a pretty cottage with a lovely garden in a peaceful and excellent location with plenty of on street parking. We did however find the bed quite uncomfortable but this is personal preference. Also, the stairs are very narrow and the doorways low (I hit my head several times) so if you’re tall take this into consideration. The water in the bathroom tap was scalding so maybe could be adjusted. The owner left a thoughtful welcome pack of a cream tea which was lovely and the cottage was good value.

Compact character cottage

This is a compact character cottage for two, well presented and clean. We liked the nice touches of strawberries and cream for our scones and fresh flowers in the rooms. The charming, sunny, little garden is an added bonus. Parking is on the roadside nearby and it was never a problem at any time of day when we were there. There are no parking restrictions. It's an easy downhill walk into the centre of Hythe, though a bit more arduous on the return journey. However, it's on a regular bus route in and out of the centre if you don't want to take the car.

Steep Hills

Cottage has steep stairs and is on the top of steep hills. Local taxi is a must for the end of the day, but there are good views when walking down to the high street and seafront in the morning. Wish there were some usb ports near the bed to charge mobiles. Lovely garden and homely decor. Hythe is well located for the little train to Dungeness and s good bus service runs along the coast, so you can manage without the car for a few days which was great.
