About the host
Hosted by Márgara Graf

Joaquín and I are painters. We had a gallery (La Turbina) for 8 years. I also write, read and we love classical music, also ethnic and artists like Mark Knopfler, Leonard Cohen, etc. (I am 70, Joaquín 75...).
We both were born in Mexico City. I studied in England, later lived and worked in Kenya. Joaquín lived and worked in Italy and both were 6 years in Spain. We came back to Mexico in 1992 and have lived in Tepoztlán ever since where we found fantastic friends, Mexican and from many parts of the world with whom we share our interest.

Why they chose this property
When we came back from Spain we did not want to live again in crowded Mexico City; Tepoztlán, which is only 80 km away, seemed ideal. We lived in the middle of town for three years, we found it too noisy and looked for a place a bit outside. We found this place in Ixcatepec, only 2 km away with lots of trees and far less noise. The plot had a very primitive town house which slowly became what is now. After we closed the gallery we divided the property and built what is now Nyumba Kitogo.
What makes this property unique
2 km from Tepoztlán centre. We are 100 mt from main road where taxis and "combis" go by. It is not so noisy, except when the patron's feast is in May, but that is also part of the idea of living here. The patron's church is dated 1732.
Tepoztlán itself is very interesting with its market, its people and the magnificent ex-convent which dates from 1555, a real jewel and a must!
And we are a very cosmopolitan community sharing this beauty with our local friends.
