Villa Zona Azul | Luxury Beach Villa North Guiones

Villa Zona Azul is a 5,200 square foot luxury 5-bedroom beach house on the pristine beach of Playa Guiones. Finding the right balance of rustic and modern while blurring lines between interior and exterior space was the goal of Owner Kevin Walker and Architect Michelle Siu, who met while surfing out in front of the property. Sitting in the line-up, the unobtrusive palm 'Rancho' style roof blends the villa into its natural landscape - a common compliment from local surfers.

Native teak and Guanacaste wood are used throughout in all the doors and built-ins. Warm finishes, industrial fixtures, and Balinese mixed with mid-century modern furnishings create a luxurious yet homey environment with plenty of space for large groups to gather and lots of small breakaway spaces for smaller groups.

Villa Zona Azul (Blue Zone) is named after its location on the Nicoya Peninsula of Costa Rica which is classified as one of the 5 original Blue Zones of the world. What is a Blue Zone? It’s a demographic and/or geographic region where common lifestyle characteristics contribute to the general population living healthier and longer lives – on average over 100! These characteristics include: more emphasis on friends & family, a diet of mostly plants/legumes, some physical activity every day, and most people in these regions do not smoke cigarettes. In general, the people in Costa Rica live the Pura Vida lifestyle. Pura Vida means 'Pure Life'. Come experience the Pura Vida with us at Villa Zona Azul.

Wonderful Property

This property is absolutely stunning and first class in every way. The staff is top notch and communication was great the entire time. Beds were comfy, rooms were well air-conditioned, beach access was wonderful, and the property is well stocked with fun extras like bikes, surfboards and games. I would have given the property 5 stars because it really is beautiful and one of a kind, but there are a few things very important to make note of: 1) The washer and dryer can only be used by the staff. So if you have laundry, you will need to pay the housekeeper $10 to have that done. 2) The main areas are NOT air conditioned. This was fine on the upper level since we used that for yoga. But downstairs in the kitchen, dining, and sitting areas, it was hot and humid always. This made it more difficult for us to spend time all together as a family because it was uncomfortable much of the time. 3) Possibly the most important thing to note is that this property is EXTREMELY difficult to get to. For half the trip from the Liberia airport, you are on unpaved, bumpy, dangerous roads. At one point, there is a river you have to drive across. During the rainy season this river can become impassible. There are two ways out of Nosara and both have horrible roads with dangerous areas that become impassible when the water is high. We ended up leaving 2 days early because we were afraid it would rain again and we would be unable to get out. If you are renting a vehicle, 4 wheel drive is a must. If you can rent a 4 wheel drive vehicle with a snorkel, even better. If you are taking transport from the airport, be prepared for a long, extremely bumpy and uncomfortable ride. I am adding this to my review because I wish someone had given me this info before renting the property. The little town area near the property has lots of really great restaurants and shops. The surfing looked great, although we are not surfers Shelling on the beach was also really fun with a wide variety of shells to collect. If the roads ever get paved, I would definitely return to this property and area.

Even Better Than It Looks

This was, by far, our best VRBO experience ever. Ale, the property manager was amazing, taking care of every detail before and during our trip. She was thoughtful, patient and anticipated our every need. The house is even more stunning than it looks. We had 11 people stay there and there were great spaces for all of us to gather and plenty of places to find space and quiet. The beach is simply stunning. Although it feels off the beaten path, stores and restaurants are just steps away. Loved this place beyond words.

This is the third time that my friends and I stayed at Villa Zona Azul and it was hands down the best one yet thanks to the property manager, Ale, who took care of everything. If there was a request, it was taken care of. If we needed more food or drinks, it was delivered and placed in the fridge and freezer. If there was a question, it was answered quickly. She had a constant smile and nothing is a problem attitude. The property is absolutely gorgeous and with the property manager's service, it's a must stay.
